I bought a beauty dish from ebay from 'oeccamera'. It arrived with a big dent due to the insufficient packing, so i messaged the seller to request a new one, stating i would send the damaged one back.

Here's the reply. Looks like they don't like to recieve faulty products sent back even though their refunds policy states they would replace it. You gotta be careful with those ebay sellers.. so recommend use of paypal where there is insurance provided in case you get problems.

Dear petay71,

Hello, the aluminum is very soft and can be bent by hand.
Any attempt to double box this item makes it too big to ship to oz.
Returning it is not practical due to the cost of postage.

Regards, John.

Obviously they are looking for an excuse. If they can't ship it, they should not sell it. However, they are still liable. If they shipped by USPS they might get their money back if they insured it after 90 days. But that is not your problem. If they shipped by UPS or FedEx, they are going to to see the packing; if insufficient, they deny the claim. In all cases keep the shipping materials for show and tell.

It might be better to file your complaint through eBay instead of PayPal. In either case, you are going to have to return the item before you get your claim resolved through eBay or PayPal. Good luck,

Don't give up on this - please! If enough people let sellers get away with this sort of thing, it will continue. There are still lots of things that you can do, even if you didn't use PayPal.

First, always communicate with the sender via eBay messages - then eBay stays in the loop.

If their policy says they will replace it - tell them that is what you want. If it is not worth paying to get the bent one back, that is their decision. Tell them you want an undamaged dish like you paid for. Whatever they decide to do in order to give you that is up to them. If they don't want to pack it as it needs, let them keep sending one after another until they get lucky and one makes it to you undented.

When you communicate with the seller, mention that you're sure they do not want to receive negative feedback. And when it is all over, give feedback that is honest and fitting. Even if your deal doesn't work out like you want - you have reason to leave negative feedback. Too much negative feedback and they are out of eBay.

Make sure that you get eBay, and PayPal if you used it, involved. Dissatisfied buyers are expected to contact the seller and try to work things out - but you've done that. Send a mail and ask what to do. If approrpriate, file a complaint case.

A lot of sellers complain that eBay is too "buyer oriented" - you can use that to get satisfaction.

Be strong and get what you deserve - and let us know how it turns out.

report the claim on paypal as the "item wasnt as described" as it clearly wasnt described as being damaged and even though it happened in transit that is not your fault. esculate the claim with paypal and tell them the item arrived damaged. you have contacted the seller and he wont refund or replace.

they will do the rest.

Sometimes when vendors know that it's not cost efficient to ship back and send out a new one...they'll just let you keep the defective one and ship you out a new one.

That's what I was thinking too. They need to be held accountable and he should get a good BD - but if everything works out, he'll have a good one and one with a dent. Then he can at least try to repair the dented one.
