Iv been playing about with macro quite alot, and decided i want to purchase a really good macro, i have a project in mind too, so this would really be a help. But after much research im still unsure about which to pick?

My choices were:

- Sigma 105mm f/2.8
- Canon 100mm f/2.8
- Sigma 150mm f/2.8
- Canon 100mm L IS

- or simply wait around for the sigma 150mm OS??? :S

They're all good lenses, I would decide first if you really need to extra focal length of the Sigma 150 first then narrow it down from there.

Canon 35-80 with the front chopped off. Gets you to ~2.3x lifesize on a full frame body.

canon 100mm is pretty nice.... canon 100L if you need/want the IS and build + circular aperture blades for smoother bokeh

The question is hard to answer if you don't say what you are going to do with it. I shoot a lot of macro, and like you I have a crop sensor camera. I have both the Canon 100mm L and the EF-S 60mm. I almost always use the longer lens for bugs, but even 100mm can be too long for some uses, e.g., flower shots taken with a tripod. You have to back up far enough that you need a very large surface for the flower and the tripod. 150mm would be out of the question, at least in my setup. I'll post one I took a couple of days ago as an example: I started with my 100mm and switched to the 60mm because I didn't have the space to back up enough with the 100mm. So I think you would get more useful answers if you specified more what you want to shoot.

ooops I just voted for the Canon 100 and I meant to vote for the Canon 100 L. I went with that one simply for the added IS and I love that lens, for macro and many other things.
