I know. I felt like that too. But the sooner you do it, the sooner you'll get your new cleaned cam back.
It takes them 2 days to send you the UPS label, so the sooner you call them the better.

If it's not in the number range the recall notice specified it doesn't need doing. It's not "belt and braces", it's just that in a certain range of cameras there was something wrong with the glueing. Not earlier ones or later ones, just that number range. Mine hasn't been "fixed" and it doesn't need it.


5D & 7D (both gripped), 24-105L, 100-400L, 15-85, 50 f1.8, Tamron 28-75, Sigma 12-24, G10, EX-Z55 & U/W housing, A1+10 lenses, tripods, lighting gear, etc. etc.

I asked about which ones needed the fix, she said Canon didn't let them know which serial # were or were not affected.
Because I told her if it doesn't need the fix, I wasn't going to worry about it, but she couldn't tell me.

I took my 5D to the NJ facility to have another small repair done (for which they didn't charge, even though it was well outside warranty) and they told me no mirror repair was needed. So they didn't do it. It's now 20 months on and no sign of a problem.

The people at that facility really know their 5Ds, and I'm far more inclined to take their advice than that of some telephone receptionist somewhere.

well, I guess if it isn't needed they won't do it
the girl on the phone told me to write on the form that you send in with it that you want them to "retrofit" it?
that way it will get fixed either way
not sure what that means, but she was very helpful.
