5D check... 135L check... 85 1.8 check... w/ funds remaining... its between the 35L & the 50L that I'm struggling with

The 17-40 will come later so I can hit wide.

35L is the one.

as i posted before mainly portraits of all kinds, kids adults.. landscape.. some sports.. general photography, i could go with the 7D new and get great lenses like the 50 L and 135 L , cause i thought about it.. the 5D C is an amazing camera but since 2006 how many clicks have been through the sensor etc.....

If this is your only DSLR, I would recommend getting the 7D. It will perform well for portraits, sports, and landscapes.

In my opinion, 5Dc is unmatched for portraits and landscapes, but is not a top performer in sports. You CAN shoot sports with the 5Dc, but you will have better luck with the 7D.

Never thought of the sensor wearing out. As to "how many clicks" surely that's just a question of fact? The 5DC I've been trying to sell has just over 7k, and the mean shutter life for these cameras is (IIRC) 100k. Plenty of life left. With a 5DC I'd be more concerned to check the low pass filter hadn't been scratched by inappropriate cleaning, even though that's not likely to be a problem. And of course the mirror - how many people believe that all 5DCs suffer from this problem, and they all need Canon's free repair? First of all that repair IS free, and they generally clean the whole camera while they're at it, but more significantly it DOESN'T affect all 5DCs, only some of those within a certain serial number range when something went wrong with their glueing technique. ALL others, earlier and later, are fine and DON'T need the mirror fix. There's a lot of misinformation out there.

i got my 5Dc roughly more than 2 years now. and as far as i know i bought it with more that 25K shutter in it. mirror was reglued by canon, i slapped a grid screen in it, and it still runs like sea biscuit. classic is on its class of its own.=D

I had the 7D and recently sold it and picked up a 5D. My reasons for selling were:

- I never used the FPS. I'm always in One Shot mode. (Loved the AF though, but not a deal breaker on the 5D)
- I only used the video sparingly.
- I shot some landscapes but shot portraits and car shows primarily. Don't do sports.
- I rarely crop. So I don't need the 18MP. I frame what I intend to shoot.
- I rarely ever shot over 800 ISO. So I don't need the high ISO capabilites.
- My pockets aren't as light as they were. Think about it. You can get a 7D for $1300-$1400 used retail or whatever the going rate for a CLP one is. It's going to depreciate more than a 5D. In two years a 7D will be around $700-$800 used. You can get a 5D for around $900-$1000 used now. The 5D might be around the same $700-$800 range in two years as well.

Both are great camera's but it's only your decision.

Finally recieved my "new" to me 5D Classic yesterday. :D This thing is spotless, I must say. Mirror, viewfinder and body all look so clean it would be hard to tell this guy from new. Now it's time to step my lens game up. Spring cannot come soon enough here in Michigan. Taking it outside to snap a couple pics was the only way I could get enough light for my poor iPhone.

And never mind that I didn't make sure the eye cup was fully snapped in. I went over the camera with a fine-toothed comb (q-tips) to catch any dust and didn't pay attention that it was fully snapped in. Ha!

Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised as well. The gentleman I bought it off of on eBay assured me through several messages that she was in pristine condition and even left feedback BEFORE I even received it. That's when I knew I'd be happy.

Face looks super processed. Skin looks super fake, maybe it's just me.

^^^ I just lit the model and shot it. There is no PP on that shot other then converting it from RAW to JPEG in post production and removing some stray hair around her head, and I pulled back some of the darks...

Mookalafalas wrote in post #11820840 (external link)
:D:DAn interesting comment from "the king of super processing".
On my screen it looks fine. She has a strong layer of base makeup, which is perhaps what you are referring to? and then the extreme eye job, but I don't get any haloing or other processing weirdness at all. Looks very clean.

^^^^ Yup... it was the models concept and there was a lot of makeup involved. My job here was to light the model and I thought I did a good job for once with the lighting....

Picture looks super cool. I must have been numbed by all ads and stuff I have edited where I turn the girls barbie style. I thought it looked like a natural shot...

^^^ Thanks, thats what I thought when I saw it on my computer after the shoot.... but i guess there are some mixed reviews on it...

zachbreaux wrote in post #11821013 (external link)
Rule of thumb i like to see followed - give every inch of skin the same treatment....

^^^ again didn't re-touch a inch of her skin in post production... if thats what your referring to ?

thrash_273 wrote in post #11821552 (external link)
misfocus. could've be great around f/8 or higher. a little more light also wold be nicer. just me

the image EXIF: ISO 200, F/13, 160s. Image blown up to 100% and everything looks super sharp to me...

roszell wrote in post #11821662 (external link)
I agree, especially about the light/exposure comment. I do like the concept though!

^^^ that was the point... the idea was overexpose and then pull back some of the darks in post production and not touch any of her skin tones or anything like that in PP.... so ...

Appreciate everyone's comments on this picture I really do. Its nice to see other photographers comments on your work. Negative or positive. As you can see in this shot the concept was to overexpose a little and pull back the darks in post. I did no re-touching of the skin in PP. I thought as a photographer I nailed the lighting in the shot pretty good. At least I think I am improving. Feedback is always welcome either way.

all,

can the 5Dc use custom style sets or not?
just got my used, new to me unit today and i immediately went to grab some of my kevin wang style sets and it doesnt let me load them onto the camera.
it tells me to change the camera connection to "PC Connection" and plug it back in.
when i do that nothing happens, the camera and the PC and canon software act like nothing is plugged in.

please tell me i can upload them into the camera.. it is such a pain to use the canon software and then go thru the countless custom styles and raw files that i have to find a nice one.

i typically shoot directly from the camera with one of the fuji styles, kodachrome, or one of the awesome Wang Style sets.
