can the 5Dc use custom style sets or not?
just got my used, new to me unit today and i immediately went to grab some of my kevin wang style sets and it doesnt let me load them onto the camera.
it tells me to change the camera connection to "PC Connection" and plug it back in.
when i do that nothing happens, the camera and the PC and canon software act like nothing is plugged in.

please tell me i can upload them into the camera.. it is such a pain to use the canon software and then go thru the countless custom styles and raw files that i have to find a nice one.

i typically shoot directly from the camera with one of the fuji styles, kodachrome, or one of the awesome Wang Style sets.

I personally have not worked with the 5D connected to the PC -- the tethered shooting I've done has been with my 1D3, not the 5D.

I have heard that at least in newer OSs there is not "built in" connectivity for the 5D and that Canon drivers "out of the box" are not connecting with it and that you have to go online and get 5D-compatible drivers and that you will have to use them in 32 bit mode, but that's all hearsay to me.

Maybe someone here has gone through this and has details, otherwise I'd do some Internet searching.

I am not trying to remote shoot, although those are probably the same drivers.
i am simply trying to get into the EOS utility where you can upload custom picture styles to the camera.

I've tried tether shooting with the 5D quite a few times now. Worked pretty well for me. Basically connect to the laptop, close EOS utility, launch Lightroom, and off your go.

Not completely sure what you meant by custom styles...

5D check... 135L check... 85 1.8 check... w/ funds remaining... its between the 35L & the 50L that I'm struggling with

35 or the 17 - 40 now. 50 later.

I may loose my mind before my 5D arrives, B&H says it has shipped, I'm not sure if I should freak out more over the FF camera or the L glass, gah so ready for it!

I know what you mean! I ordered a lens almost 2 weeks ago. The tracking info says it left the States on Feb. 6--and then it disappears. No arrival. It wasn't expensive and is probably insured, but the waiting and not knowing what happened is making me buggy

you need to check out Kevin Wang. Film Maker, Photographer, Teacher, Mentor, and Custom Style God!

nearly all of his photostream, and the picture effects you see there were done in camera, using custom styles. no PS or other program used for the effects.

i have dozens of them and once you use them you wont go back.

i did get everything going. i have a dedicated windows XP hard drive just for times like this.
had to do the registry hack to get the software to install since i dont have any cd's, but its working.
got Kodachrome, Fuji Realla and one other loaded on the camera now. probably going to load up Velvia right now.

What a trip! That guy just did a shot of my daughters a few weeks ago. They have big billboards up here and there throughout my town (It's for real estate). Interestingly, he shoots--or at least shot my daughters--with a 5D.

^^^ Not a bad choice. You can never go wrong with the 135L and I've seen plenty of great things from the sigma 50. Icebat shoots with the Sigma 50 and has great results.
