In what way? The main differences I see are obviously the wider angle view with the same lens, and the higher resolution.

Much cleaner file straight out of the camera. Less noise which means less work in post processing.

I'd say the main difference is the dof and subject isolation at the same aperture.

NR is one of the smallest parts(as far as time consumption goes anyway) of PP.

A good photographer can take extraordinary photos anywhere, with any camera and any lens while a mediocre one will take mediocre ones everywhere, with every camera and every lens.
Never limit yourself with what others think you should do. Shoot what you find interesting, exactly the way you want to.

but a less noisy picture to begin with is better than an image with a bunch of NR, no?

Indeed. However, NR itself doesn't take much work in PP, which was the original statement - how much work does it take exactly. The answer to which is almost none.

But yes, it is undoubtedly better to have a cleaner file to begin with.

Thank you, Captain Obvious.
My point was that NR doesn't really take much work. Nothing more, nothing less.
Besides, the bit of detail you do lose with NR is insignificant, unless you either look at the files at 100% or print MASSIVE prints, and then look at 'em really close, possibly with a magnifying glass.

totally agree with you on the work it takes (virtually none). the advantage i think i enjoy the most is the DOF

Well, if you dare to call some names on me you better be the King of PP.
The only fast NR I know is LR NR, but it is quick and dirty. OK to post 700-1000 pixels sized snapshots picts for here, but try to sell it for stocks at 15PM size.

Icebat, that's awesome. One for the portfolio.

And kf, that train is great, too. Love those moody clouds overhead, and the hint of warm light. I'll bet it looks fantastic full screen.
