My 5D classic is back from the dead! After four years of abuse I wore out the shutter -- got a new one installed for $400. It still takes great photos.

5D files really hold up to serious pixel bending. This image was put through the ringer -- B and W layer set to luminosity blend.

any idea how many clicks before it died? I hope canon still has the parts when my shutter goes...btw, anyone else had it's 5D shutter replaced? Is $400 the regular price?

I have no idea how many clicks it took to kill the shutter. My camera is probably abused more than most so I am not a good person to compare to. I'm an airline pilot and my 5D comes along on every trip with me. In its short life my 5D has traveled 2 million miles. Also, I am a bit of an outdoors enthusiast. My camera has gone on many hikes, been rained on multiple times, and goes to the beach a couple times a month.

When the shutter finally wore out it looked like it was just the first blade or two that were cracked. Canon told me the cost of repairs varied depending on how bad the damage was. They didn't give me an estimate until they saw the camera.

I am totally guessing here, but I think the camera had between 60,000 and 100,000 clicks on it before it died.

Here's some totally random shots from this morning after dropping off the girlfriend at work.....fack it was a cold one. Meeting up with a model in a couple hours to schedule a shoot for this weekend as well, so hopefully more eyecandy soon!

(Loved the rainbow bokeh)

Lovely set, Emilio. Makes me miss the cold a little bit...this is the stuff I shot today. It's a bit warmer where I'm at :)

Ben, Emilio, thanks a lot :) Haven't felt happy with my work for a while, but seem to be getting back in the groove lately (of course some new glass helps a lot :))

Or you could just sell everything your neighbors own.

Anyways, as an UWA prime, how good of a choice is the Samyang 14mm F2.8? It has a rather high degree of barrel distortion, but how easy is it to correct? And I'm aware of the fact that in most occasions the barrel distortion is barely noticeable, but I'm referring to those few instances where it's noticeable and correction is necessary.

Also, astral photography, how accurate is the focus distance scale thingy?

A good photographer can take extraordinary photos anywhere, with any camera and any lens while a mediocre one will take mediocre ones everywhere, with every camera and every lens.
Never limit yourself with what others think you should do. Shoot what you find interesting, exactly the way you want to.
