So far I only have the nifty fifty and my rokinon 85mm. The pictures i posted a couple pages back were with the rokinon. I am aware that I should invest into some quality glass ie canon's L lenses but they're completely out of my budget for the time being. Could you or anyone else recommend good affordable lenses? I have my eyes on upgrading the 50mm to the Sigma's 50mm since I love the creamy bokeh it creates. I'll need something else UWA to cover that field and possibly a zoom? While owning the 60D i was impressed by the 55-250mm lens by canon but it's EF-S. I read about the 75-300mm but the IQ is subpar.

So far my ideal lenses to fit what i have for the time being would be:
Sigma 50mm F1.4
Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC
Canon 28mm F2.8
Rokinon (Samyang) 14mm F2.8

Toss in your tips guys!

I'm in LOVE with this camera :)

OH btw, the ONLY feature that i miss greatly from the 60D is back button focusing. I don't have access to an english manual of the 5D and i was wondering is there any way to do so on the 5D? If so explain how?

I don't know how helpful I can be about lens choices -- by the time I went for the the 5D, I was pretty much "L only" -- in fact I picked up the24-105 as a "kit lens" for the 5D, and I still happily use them together as my "walk around kit"! Get that lens if you can!

nice work, tophotowa!
have fun with your new baby, BryantFC. When I switched from my 550D (which I shot jpegs only) to the 5D I first was very disappointed because the jpegs kinda sucked =). so i switched to raw (thanks, al) and the magic begun :D

Rokinon (Samyang) 14mm F2.8

L lenses aren't necessary FYI. Your nifty fifty and Rokinon(Samyang) are already optically excellent, just the bokeh on the nifty fifty isn't all that nice, and the plastic parts can wear out over time.
Also, you could look into the Canon 70-300 DO IS USM, if you absolutely want a longer dark zoom.
Oh and you could go for a Canon 28mm F1.8 or a Sigma 24mm F1.8 instead of the 28mm F2.8, and I doubt you'd be unhappy with either choice, and neither of the two are all that expensive.
The Sigma 50mm F1.4 I recommend wholeheartedly. :)

P.S. one doesn't necessarily need a whole crap ton of lenses. If you don't, don't start hoarding them. If you do, then by all means, go ahead, though.

I'm still having difficulty finding one on sale... gah. I have the money, but now I lack people selling the camera. Funny thing is if I had started about a month ago I would've had a large selection of 5D bodies, one with a freshly changed shutter AND sensor.

Curse my poor timing!

Being cameraless makes me sad and cranky.

A good photographer can take extraordinary photos anywhere, with any camera and any lens while a mediocre one will take mediocre ones everywhere, with every camera and every lens.
Never limit yourself with what others think you should do. Shoot what you find interesting, exactly the way you want to.

Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC
Canon 28mm F2.8
Rokinon (Samyang) 14mm F2.8

OK ... this is what I got:

First I replaced my EF-S 10-22 with the EF 17-40L - my first L glass. Very affordable - and it has those nice L-colours :-D

Secondly I replaced the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 with a Tammy 28-75 f2.8 - nice standard zoom.

I can really recommend the Canon 35mm f2 - the AF isn't that great (very loud) but the IQ is superb. But I sold it, because I already have this focal length with the other two lenses mentioned above.

I also own a Canon EF 50 1.4 which I'll never sell. It's such a nice lens.

The Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC was a blast on my 550D but I'm not really that excited on the 5D. Looks good in the center but nothing to rave about. But I did not test it very extensively yet.

Maybe I'll also sell this one to fund the 135L :D

KF, love that second shot. Did you get that with the Tamron? Or do you have a new lens you aren't listing yet?

Thanks Al!
Tamron it is, with 430 EX II adjusted to minimum level.
I'm very happy with this copy. Colors and sharpness are same as at my two L zooms.
Hope to get new prime lens for portraits in December.

I had to return to the classic!

About one year ago I sold my 5Dc and bought the 7D. From the moment I had my 7D I missed the 5D. But the 7D had many advantages I now can't live without. Yesterday I got an offer I couldn't refuse and the 5D classic is back in my arsenal. Now I'm on the hunt for a BG-E4, but I already found a few used ones for sale in my area.

I'll post some pics soon ;)
