Went back to the same spot as Thursday nights shots of the sunset so that I could get some sunrise shots with the river, but no river. :(

Anyways, this is what I was able to capture.

Just a quick question - with the 1Ds mk1 and the 5Dc going for similar / identical prices used, which would you recommend for a first foray into delicious full-frame goodness?

Bought a used 5Dc a little while ago. Mirror just locked up, took the lens off, and the mirror fell out... Does anyone know if Canon is still doing the mirror repair fix for free?

The 1Ds is ancient...as a both 5D and 1D owner I'm not biased...go for the 5Dc.

I don't really agree, I own a 5Dc and a 1DS mk1 amongst other bodies and due to the better body, better AF, AI servo, viewer blackout time to mention a few things I find the 1DS superior to the 5Dc. It just handles better and produces images that are as good as the 5Dc in every way.

The 1Ds will also, all things being equal, far outlive the 5Dc :D

I agree, the body is better, better AF and AI Servo are pretty much the same thing, and quite frankly while I do love the 1D's AF much better, the 5D still does a good enough job for what most FF users need (ie: not tracking BIF, but rather portraits or landscape)...I'd say one massive advantage, however is the ISO range...the 1Ds tops out at a (by today's standards) pathetic 1250 ISO. How often do I use AI Servo? Never. How often do I take advantage of the 1D's far superior body? Almost never (I don't shoot in crazy environments any more). How often do I give a hoot and holler about a split second difference in VF blackout? Never.

How often do I go above ISO 1250? Quite often! Not to mention, I bet even at ISO 400 and especially ISO 800 (ISOs most of us use on a regular basis), the 5Dc handily beats the 1Ds. I think just based on that, the overall victory goes to the 5Dc. (And remember...I'm NOT against the 1D series, I have a 1D3 and I dream of a 1Ds3).

In addition, the 5Dc has slightly more resolution (more room for cropping), a larger screen with much higher resolution, etc, etc...

I prefer my 5D as a "general purpose" body over my 1d body (it's a 1D3). The 5D is comparatively light and compact -- pretty much the size of the 1D body without the grip. I use the 1D3 for shooting things that demand the high-performance features, but for out-and-about shooting I go for the 5D. You can carry it and a lens or two all day without feeling like you are "lugging something around"!

And, I've never shot with a 1Ds "Classic" but I do believe I've heard confirmation of what Lowrider says about ISO performance, which is meaningful to me as well. I have heard, though, that the 1Ds does deliver fine images in its own right.
