Oh oh! I hope you'll like it Brandon! Lucky you :p

I hope so too! I can't imagine why I wouldn't. I'm just glad I caught the wife on a good day during the pregnancy. She just had a glow about her that day that said "of course you can needlessly upgrade your camera again!". So I took it and ran.

thanks for clearing it up "hisownhero", I could have sworn that is how it went but a review on photozone.de proved that the current 17-40 is a better lens, but this has nothing to do with anything. Anyways, shorter focal length = better results.

Mookalas, one reason I know all of this is because I read a ton of reviews, in order to spend my money wisely. Since photography is only a hobby....or they say...Lets see... 5D+lenses+rebel+a sigma compact =3K. Its expensive, but I'm happy to have many lenses that preform adequately, instead of having one L and perhaps dropping it one day.:cry::cry:

K095: thanks, your contributions are just as helpful. also, refer above ^^^ which explains a bit. Hows the 14mm? am i right? I am also interested in the siggy 50mm, which will replace the plastic 50. So far its holding up very well.:D

Question for the tamron 28-75 2.8 users: would you recommend it? I've been hovering over the 'buy' button on adorama's site for a whole now. I have a 17-35L and 50 1.4 now but would like a nice all in one lens for hikes and walkabouts. I've read some reviews on line and checked the lens sample page but I'd love the 5D user's feedback

I like mine a lot. I did a lot of research on it. It's the poor man's 24-70L, basically. Center sharpness is pretty close to the L's, but borders and and corners are softer at the wide end, and a hair better at the long end. You get 5mm at the long end, but of course those aren't nearly as sweet as the 5mm you lose at the wide end. Still, however, 28m on a 5D is equal to 17mm on a crop, so it's still wide. At about 1/3 the price of the L, I'd say it's an excellent bargain, and a very nice lens all around.

BTW, I'm finally starting to get to like the 17-40. I shot today at 20mm and over, and found that in that range it is truly excellent. Just gotta lay off the 17...

Thanks, I might just go for it. The pic quality looks really good and I like the versatility. Do you use it at 2.8 or stop it down to get it real sharp?

the 17-40 only goes down to F4! It is sharpest between 5.6-8.
Another.

Jericobot, I also have the 28-75 and "quite" like it. I had a 17-50 before and loved it. The 28-75 seems cheaper but still delivers great results. On the 5D, at 28mm, it does vignette quite a bit. It's AF isn't the best in low light, much worse than the 17-50. But still usable. It does deliver great pictures thought. For it's price, it's a nice lens. But I would not pay 600$ for it.

I find myself using almost always with my 60D... I primary use primes on the 5D. Mainly to get that nice DOF. But at 75mm at F2.8, you also hava a nice subject isolation.

I say go for it ;)

Thank you, jvz09. I'm only thinking about 14 2.8. Well, saving money for it any way.
I like 2.8 , because I do some quick, hand held, snapshots of local landscapes after or before work (sunrise and sunsets).

I have it on my 5Dc for few weeks now. It is light and compact enough for hikes and walkabouts. I like how it is build. But it is little-bit clunky then switching AF-MF, and something clicking and grinding in the lens once you starting to rotate focus ring.
Viewfinder on 5Dc is big enough for manual focusing. AF is not something to write home about on this lens.
But IQ wise it seems to be good and I can't afford 24-70 2.8 anyway.

I use it on 2.8 a lot. And it seems to be sharp enough if I'm using manual focus.

I guess this is somewhat repetitive of what has been said but it is a great lens for the price. Not the best build quality and it does hunt in low light. But it has great optics and is really compact. For your hikes and walkabouts it should really serve you well. I would quit hovering and click;)

I found last two pictures to be nice and very sharp. Colors also very good.
And it seems to be no barrel distortion as well.
