Time once again for some images from the monthly fly in breakfast at Coolidge, Arizona...

Morning Inspection .. Decided a low, slow flyby was in order before circling to land

IMAGE: http://crosswindimages.com/img/s1/v20/p795896302.jpg

Light and Shadow .. Sabena Academy trainer realizing this was a bad day to be doing touch and go's...
IMAGE: http://crosswindimages.com/img/s3/v26/p559794477.jpg

See and Mostly Avoid... The pattern got pretty crazy for a time!
Husky landed long. 180 went around and the 150 landed really short!
IMAGE: http://crosswindimages.com/img/s3/v26/p839324725.jpg

C-47 Cockpit .. Vain attempt to balance flashed black panel with outdoors

Beautiful Harvard in SAAF markings

C-47 Low, Low Fly By

TBM Avenger Departing

All flying shots: MkIII + 500mm f/4L IS + 1.4X TC
Statics: MkIV + Brick

Comments always welcome! Enjoy!! :D

Nice collection of pictures. I have never seen a SAAF plane in those colors or markings before, I think it's the owners colors of preference. Got a side/profile shot?

Hey Roger...

I was shooting pretty much heads and tails along the active so I wasn't able to get a full side shot. If any of our other AzAP members got one, I'll toss up a link.

The roundels definitely had the Springbok Antelope in them...

I believe you on that one, kinda curious to see how it was finished overall. I've got the bible on the SAAF Harvards, and have never seen this scheme before. It's probably just like the many U.S. and Canadian schemes that never were. Thanks

Whatcha see is kinda what it was. Overall medium grey, yellow stripes, the SAAF roundels on the wings and fuse sides and a small, tri-colored rectangular flash on the vertical stab.

Maybe it's still undergoing its final paint scheme? I'll try and drop an email to one of the guys who flew in with the Harvard and the C-47 and see what else I can find out.

There is a slightly wider shot (same angle) on the website under Aviation -> Warbirds & Classics.

Shows a little more of the markings...

found it thanks, I'm guessing it's easier to keep clean with the current colors than in silver and dayglo.

So it's a modern-day scheme but on a WWII era airframe?

Interesting... Sort of like painting a T-41 as an F-16...

That Harvard is not in SAAF markings, the colour should be orange, not yellow and the orange extends along the leading edge of the wings and various other places.

Bill

Is there another country that uses the same leaping antelope as SA in its insignia?

Love that first one, great angle and background. The rest are rather nice too.

love the shot of the TBM and the stacked final approach.

the fly-in breakfast reminds me of the weekend warriors going CZBB - CYCW every sunday for pie a la mode. good pie and makes for a nice flight.
