You have to love tradition, this happened in 1941, we still did it when I was in the regiment and it continues to this day and will happen on St Davids Day the 1st March.

I would have no use for the bible or Shakespeare, so if it's ok with the maker of the rules, I'd like to substitute those with a dictionary and the complete works of Mark Twain.

As for the rest of my choices, I'll think about it today and come up with something later.

Not strictly within the rules but as I know you :-)

Lonnie we all think that your luxury non essential item will be your Spice Girls Poster ;-)a

Well, maybe it would have been if it weren't destroyed in the great Kitteh war of 2008...

So, maybe I'll bring a car door instead. That way, on days when it's really hot, I could roll down the window for a nice, cool breeze...

Nah. Never cared for her at all.

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

Very spiffy looking, Neil. You had a lot of hair back then ;)

Leeks were optional in the photos too!

and for the desert island thing, I think I'd rather have my ipod or no ipod & 8 books (though choosing those 8 would be hard). I like the first choices though as the bible & shakespeare.

But if I had to stick to the rules:

the other book would be the LOTR in one volume. (it was either that or the works of Jane Austen in one vol)

music:
4 cd's would be "Ten Years of the TSO" (external link)
Vivaldi's 4 seasons (external link)

Handel's water music (external link)

Charlie Brown's Holiday hits (external link) (I love Vince Guaraldi trio)

and Riverdance (external link)

1 non-practical luxury: 10lbs of Kona coffee & a french press.

An iPod would be a bit of a cheat :-)

Now why do I think there are not too many surprised people reading that :-)

 LOL I considered other things, including a guitar but coffee makes me happy so...I just thought I'd go with it.

I also considered Pachies, but since he's on medicine, I figured it'd be better for him to stay in civilization.

I also considered changing out Riverdance for Elton John's (or Bette Midler's) greatest hits but, I figured I'd grow tired of them faster.

The radio programme that this is based on has been going for years and is really good, it is usually very light hearted when it come sto the luxury item but I was really shocked once when Nigella Lawson (Celebrity Cook LINK (external link)) said that she would take a vial of insulin and a syringe so that when things got really low she would be able to end it all peacefully. In fairness to her this was very shortly after her first husband had died.
