"TPBM Chat Thread "Desert Island Disks"

You are trapped on a small desert Island but you do not have to worry about food and water there is an adequate supply.

All you have with you is a portable record player (CD player now I guess) The Bible^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H a dictionary and the complete works of Shakespear^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H Mark Twain.

You are limited to just:
  • 8 pieces of music or recorded spoken word
  • I book
  • I non practical luxury.

Ok, here's my list...

My eight CDs (true, you said "pieces of music", but then you also said I'd have a CD player, so I'm bringing the CD albums my favorites are on! :p):

  • Any Jimmy Buffett CD with Creola (external link) on it. Unfortunately, the audio quality in that video I linked to isn't great, but it's the best I could find.
  • I Will Take You Home (external link) by Brent Mydland/the Grateful Dead - since I don't believe this was ever released on an album, I'll probably have to burn one of the GD concerts that included it to a CD.
  • Kite (external link) by U2 - another tricky one, since I don't care for the studio version they released on their album All That You Can't Leave Behind. I want this version, from their Elevation concert DVD. So, I'd probably have to rip the DVD then burn the soundtrack to CD to take to the island with me.
  • Western Standard Time by Asleep at the Wheel (my favorite tracks: Chattanooga Choo Choo and Hot Rod Lincoln - I can't find any decent quality recordings of either on YouTube)
  • Fast Moving Train by Restless Heart (my favorite track: River of Stone - No decent quality recording to be found on YouTube)
  • Big Dreams in a Small Town by Restless Heart (my favorite track: Eldorado - Again, the YouTube captures are pretty bad)
  • The Best of the Corrs (just one of my favorite tracks: Would You Be Happier (external link))
  • C.W. McCall's Greatest Hits (just one of my favorite tracks: Roses For Mama (external link))

One book (not counting the dictionary and complete works of Mark Twain that the rules maker so graciously allowed me to substitute in :D ):
  • The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter

One non-practical luxury item:
  • A good, sturdy pair of hiking boots - or, if that would be considered practical, then maybe a deck of cards. I'll be playing a lot of solitaire on that island...

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

I have my ulterior motives, too, y'know! If I find a cute young thang on the other side of that island I'll be ready to challenge her to a game of strip poker. There's more than one game to play with a deck o' cards... ;)

It was a nice bit of snow without causing issues. It's snowing again right now, pretty heavy flakes but most of the morning's snow has melted so it's not adding to what we had.

I really like the lilac bud trying hard to fight off winter.

I was really hoping for a nice bloom this year. We planted them two years ago. The first year they bloomed beautifully. Last year, nothing. Totally nothing. :| The one we planted 3 years ago bloomed fine all 3 years.

I am almost embarrassed to admit to knowing this but that is a lyric from a song by Jim Steinman called "Total Eclipse of the Heart (external link)" sung by Bonny Tyler

I have potting soil, planters and a bunch o' seeds (tomatoes, peppers, flowers, etc), but I just can't figure out when I should start planting this year's balcony garden. I thought spring had arrived a couple weeks ago, and I was ready to get everything started, then things turned cold again. Very cold. Even snow again, last weekend...

And, we have another cold storm headed our way again next weekend, too.

But, I noticed this morning that the cherry trees are starting to blossom.

I'm so confuzzled!

LOL yeah it is...

I was listening to a random mix of music and thinking about the funny epitaphs that Dan had been reading to me yesterday. Then that line came up and I thought "that would be a great one"

I'm not sure where he was reading them but this one was so funny:
Heisenberg's epitaph reads, "He lies here, somewhere."

another one:
I told you I was sick.
