Is that the series he did 10-20 years ago? I remember watching it and really enjoying it. Would be worthy of another viewing.

this is the series...I think it's relatively new but I don't know? Neflix streams "sahara" "Himalaya" and "new europe"

this made me cry. I must be emotional today. :|

I LOVED that version of Hallelujah though. Alexandra Burke. It's one of my (now) favorite renditions.

It made me cry too. And smile. And laugh, and cry. Struck me just right this morning.

Watching this show where a team is heading out to the Yucatan peninsula. The host asks one of the locals a question. The local answered with one word. The translator relayed the answer.... with a paragraph.

Host: So, where's this event taking place?
Local: Brzxtrhac.
Translator: He says, "The event to which you refer will be taking place three miles down the road, past Mrzrt's barn, in the field where the soy beans are grown. Be sure to take a blanket and at least 5 pesos for the entry fee."

This happens all the time. A local gives out a two or three syllable word and the translation is a paragraph in English. I want to live in a country where the local dialect is so all encompassing that a complete, in depth conversation can be done in three or four words.

This team is looking for a legendary and mythical "Alux" (ah-LOOSH) in the Yucatan peninsula. It's a short biped, quick moving, covered in hair.

In the North American continent, we call it a Zane.

We've all heard about the various Pharaoh's curses. "Open this tomb and you'll die", yadda, yadda, yadda.

Actually, not many people know what the exact curses say. Some know that they involve various Egyptian gods and doomed afterlife prospects, but only the hardened Egyptologists know what they mean. I'm going to help you to with a sampling of these scary curses.

  • Curse of Vizier Blakhat: "Open this tomb and the god of Crispy Wheat will KICK YOUR BUTT." Apparently, Difonis, who suffered from an acute case of "Small God Complex", was NOT a god to tick off.
  • Curse of General Taoz "Crazy Eyes" Ramakes: "Hey, if you open this tomb door, you will be cursed with the thousand year itch." During the tenth Dynasty, the thousand year itch was a big threat. The curse of the 700 year itch wasn't so bad, but, still...
  • Curse of Ram Alam a'Din Gdon: No one really knows who this guy was, but he was important enough to have a tomb in Luxor. Curse was: "Yo, Yo, get offa my cloud! Yo, you dissin' my crib? I will MESS. YOU. UP!" This was a loose translation as some of the writing was lost to antiquity.
  • Curse of Pharaoh Greg IV (or, Greg the Tepid): Not a well known pharaoh, but had a very serious curse written on the doors of his tomb. "If you open this door, you will disturb the mummy. Ra will kick you in the sensitive spot. Osiris will pull your hair like a third grade girl. Bastet scratch you so hard you will have scars all over ugly mug. And Anubis will disconnect your A/C in your condo in the underworld." Needless to say, this severe curse was good enough to keep Greg's tomb undisturbed for centuries.
  • Curse of Princess Khenerfit: Her tomb was located in the Valley of the Kings, actually in the Valley wall (right next to Pharaoh Frameses). Her curse: I will SLAP you! I will SLAP YOU so hard, your MAMA won't recognize you! You ain't NEVER been slapped like I'm gonna slap you! Years from now, you will still be a-stinging from my Post-Life Slappin'. You better get your sweet pah-tootie back out that door, Honey, cuz the Slappin' just about to start!" It is noted that the Princess had quite the attitude.

Hope this helps.

I love those Ghost Hunting shows. A team of "experts" head out to some old house or region where there are reports of hauntings. They set up, at night, put out a bunch of electronics picked up at the Home Depot. Then they turn off all the lights and sit in the dark. They begin to talk to any ghosts that may be in the area.

In a haunted house. A house that has a horrific past. In the dark. Talking to the Lingering Dead.

Then there's a sound, a slamming door, a moving piece of furniture, cabinet door shutting.

The guy sitting in the middle of the room of a haunted house jumps up and shouts in a third grade girl voice, "WHAT THE <bleep> WAS THAT?!"

Uh.... well.... Maybe, just maybe....

Oooo....now that you reminded me.....Mari has been telling me that she has been seeing/hearing weird things going on in the house when I am out of town for work. One time, while on the phone with me....the dryer turned ON!!

Then while we were both here this past week cleaning up and the like in the house....the brand new JUG of laundry detergent fell off from the top of the washer! It was no where near the edge of the washer when it was left in there....and we always keep stuff on top of the washer, but this evening....only the completely full jug fell....nothing else.

If you don't roam the halls you don't find links to pictures like these.

There are some amazing images here, and everyone looks so happy, some of these are a bit NSFW if you use non European standards :-)

Fabulous! Love the colors, the costumes, the outrageous! Great series of photos!
