I also took the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. I think I used that and the 70-200 f/4 IS the most. As for the tripod, no. Baggage was heavy enough. Think about
THIS
or
THIS
. Neither of which is as good as a tripod, but better than handheld if you're doing long exposures.
I took waaaay more than I should've. I could've done just fine with one camera, two lenses and half of the accessories that were in my bag.
Thanks for the info Dan. I think I am going to buy the Green Pod. I want to travel as light as possible. I wanted to take both cameras just so that I don't have to change lenses...but even that idea may change and may just stick with the 7D and switch between two lenses. In addition to the cards, flash and batteries....I am going to take a dedicated video camera because I don't want to eat up CF cards with videos on the 7D.
I'm even debating taking a laptop to empty the cards on...then again, I can just take my card reader and burn some disc's using my dad's computer. How did you all handle that?

You going to be able to get over to the big island? The volcanos are really cool. I'm seriously thinking about
THIS
for our next vacation. The only problem is that the train doesn't go to Hawaii. I'd have to fly...

If you stay on Oahu, make sure you get to
Hanauma Bay
. It's one of the neatest snorkeling places on the entire island. Also worth visiting while there is the USS Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor.
Unfortunately not going to be able to make it over to the big island this trip John. Evan wants to though because he wants to see volcanoes, but it will have to wait for the next trip to do so. For the Easter holiday weekend, my parents rented a couple rooms at the Hale Koa Hotel (another military/DOD resort) which is where we will see a luau, go to the beach and snorkel (if possible). All the other days we are doing the tourist thing....and luckily, my parents live across the street from someone who works at the USS Arizona Memorial and will be getting us tickets to go!
That is actually #1 thing to do on my list...I've always wanted to visit there.
