Jimbo.....come on down, we can go shoot trains. I bet we could even drag a few of the others along for the ride.

Nothing wrong with yellow trains. They are the only thing on the tracks out in the Chief's neighborhood, so he enjoys seeing different stuff!

I was driving on the freeway next to the UP tracks last week, and there were two trains I saw with Mexican power on them (Ferromex (external link)). Of course I couldn't get a picture, but it did cause my pulse rate to jump just a bit. They are very pretty engines, especially in the land of yellow.

I guess my usual processing just isn't producing what I like or what I'm used to. I've noticed it in LR3, but it is also the first time I've used a camera or lens profile either. Maybe I should just set everything back to the default and see what happens.

BTW, I found this video (external link)of a train derailment that occurred in my old stomping grounds in Northern California. It's interesting to watch them re-rail the locomotive. It's especially interesting to me personally, because it took place at a spot I drove past every day on my way home from the office. It's on Winchester Blvd. in Los Gatos. The Permanente local is the only train that uses those rails, and usually only a couple times a week. The tracks are poorly maintained, and I used to marvel that anything could stay on the rails. It was always a great source of entertainment to watch approaching trains as the rocked back and forth.

I was surprised by this video, because when we lived there, they never ran anything larger than a Geep. In fact, they kept a small pool of first generation diesels in Santa Clara just for this run.

Looking at the video, it appears a rail rolled over. That would make sense considering the weight of that big engine and the overall condition of the track.

Looks like this happened back in 2008

Very nice shots, Crissa. I'll go against the grain, though, and say I like the first one better. While apparently posed, it almost has a candid feel to it, like maybe you caught him a little by surprise.

All are excellent, though. He's a good-looking kid.

Clarification....I liked the first one in the group of three best....not the first one you posted by itself.

Dan, this part's for you... I was talking to a Coast Guard Ensign who had come out from Whiting Field (the Primary Flight School) and she noticed my Quartermaster T-shirt. She told me that the Coast Guard has rolled all the QMs into the Bos'un Mates rating. She said one old QM begged to have them Quartermaster put on his papers when he retired...

I would request that as well. I could not imagine starting out as a QM and retiring as a BM. One of the dumbest things the CG has done, IMO.

And it is even cooler when you know that it means train in german. So I can take the train to go to train.... You should here the bangs in the train station when the trains arrives in train

 Still, the world needs more cities named Zug.

I have bookmarked 35 different recipes that you all have either typed out or linked to over the last few years. Here's one from the Chief, some time ago:

Ingredients
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/4 pounds ground beef sirloin
¼ cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons to 1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning
1 medium onion, chopped coarsely
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar (I actually used Sherry vinegar, but I don’t think it’s that important)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 8 oz cans tomato sauce (Recipe actually calls for 2 cups)
4 crusty rolls, split, toasted, and lightly buttered. (I only had a couple large sesame hamburger rolls that I buttered and browned on the griddle.
Salt and fresh-ground pepper to taste.
Directions
Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add oil and meat to the pan. Spread the meat around the pan and begin to break it up. Combine brown sugar and steak seasoning. Add sugar and spice mixture to the skillet and combine. When the meat has browned, add onion to the skillet. Reduce heat to medium and cook onions, peppers, red wine vinegar and Worcestershire sauce with meat for 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce to pan. Stir to combine. Reduce heat to simmer and cook Sloppy Joe mixture 5 minutes longer. Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, pile sloppy meat onto toasted, buttered bun bottoms and cover with bun tops.

The original recipe called for a chopped red pepper, which I didn’t have on hand. It would probably a little color. Where I used the Old Bay seasoning, they called for steak seasoning blend, such as McCormick brand Montreal Seasoning. They also called for 2 tablespoons of tomato paste.

Things I would do differently:

I probably would have added some bell pepper (for color). Also, I sautéed the onions before putting the beef in the skillet, so they were very cooked by the time the dish was done and pretty much disappeared. I would have been better off chopping them larger, and putting them in nearer the end of preparation.

I might have used a little more than 1TBSP of Worcestershire sauce. I love it, and tend to use too much. You can experiment with that.

Mmm.... sounds good on a Winter day....

Scanning my computer and it's taking a lot of valuable RAM space. Sooo... I can't draw as Photoshop would probably make my old, 1 gig RAM computer implode.

So I must be entertained.

You, in the back, put this hat on and dance a jig. You, no, YOU, juggle these fruits. You three, start singing old Pub songs. IN KEY and in close harmonies. The rest of you need to think up stuff to keep me occupied.

OK, never mind. I'll go read.

okay so I heard about this new free antivirus/antimalware. It's got rave reviews. And it's for mac or windows. So I thought I'd download it and put in on our macs. It actually found & removed 15 trojans from one of our macs.

Anyway, since the MAC program is free and does real time scans as well as doesn't come with bloatware etc. I thought I'd tell you guys about it.
