All great images, I like #3 the most.

How close did you get to these elusive bighorns?

just a few of my thoughts...

Pierre:

Thanks for compliments - as to #3, most people seem to prefer the 'action' images over the 'portraits'.

I was on the east-drive road at the National Elk Refuge. The public is not allowed off the road-way, at all. Both rams walked across the road, right behind my Jeep. At one time, they weren't more than 50 feet from me. I had the Sigma 150-500 mounted, so, as they got closer it was easy to get the 'portrait' shots.

Images 1 and 2 are of one ram, 3 and 4 are of another.

I like the portraits just fine. We don't see many of these guys on my side of the mountain.

Thanks for the additional images. Love #'s 1 and 3. The first suggests raw power and a mental keenness in his eyes and the second, of course, movement and life. Very sharp! I used a Sigma 150-500 lens on safari in Tanzania last December and, like you, was confined to a vehicle. Unlike you, I had to shoot handheld or with minimal support while standing and resting the lens on the roof of the car. Most of my images are not as sharp as a result.

I'll just have to go out 'hunting' with my Sigma again! Thanks for sharing.
