Going to be pricey I'm guessing, $4-5k+???

$6-7K easy, is my guess. but imagine the flexibility -- no need to reach into your bag for the 1.4x nice going Canon thats very clever

5D mark iii, EF-24-105mm f/4, EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM, Speedlite 580 EX II plus 3x Yongnuo 568EX, photoflex 60" white umbrella, Westcott Apollo Orb with grid

400mm on a 1.6x body is still 400mm. sensors do not change lens physics...

I'm pretty excited about this, but I know it's going to be crazy expensive, so I'm a little bummed out too.

I not sure, but that would be a major jump in price form the ef 100-400, even the ef 70-200 2.8L only went form 1700 to 2500.

Nikon has a 200-400 f4 VR lens that is a little under $7000. Canon's 70-200 f2.8 IS MKII exceeded's Nikon's 70-200 f3.8 VR II (although it is better). I suspect this will be similar in price if not a little more expensive to the Nikon.

This is not a replacement for the 100-400.

As for pricing, imagine what he price jump would have been if the 70-200/2.8 IS had been replaced with a 70-200/2.0 IS.

This is awesome. I've been wondering why Canon wasn't producing such a lens. There are a good number of professional sports photographers who love the Nikon 200-400 for day time and early evening games.

Wait... I just read on DPreview that it has a built in 1.4x. Wow!

Nikon's http://www.bhphotovideo.com …IKKOR_200_400mm_f_4G.html (external link)

Which was released last year... Canon's price WILL be similar if not more.

+1

The 100-400 is a much smaller lighter lens than this thing..This is not a replacement for the 100-400, but a supplment, Think of it as the difference between a 70-200 f/4 and a 70-200 f/2.8...

Though i must wonder if it will be lighter than the Nikon 200-400, Given how Canon has applied its weight reduction magic to the 400mm f/2.8 lens...

I expect it to be about $7k...

I will have to see will there be a new 100-400L. The only L I have almost brought on couple of occasion. I would like to see if they will replace it. I can live with not having F4, only place that I would use that lens is outdoor day time. Not an indoor lens. :)
