Not that i'll ever be buying these cameras, i find the new t3i to be very capable. This new t3i/600D further pushes the 60D out of sight for many potential buyers. I'm quite confused and need assistance. Asides from the faster frame burst, 1/3rd stop ISO increments, 1/8000 shutter speed, and larger chassis, what "Special" thing does the 60D offer that the t3i/600D does not already have?

Same thing the xxD series always had on the rebels

1. Size
2. FPS
3. Ergonomics (dual dial)

I personally really like that have have done with the 60D when they combined a dial and a directional pad.

I mean, what did the 40D have over the 450D?

On top of what you already mentioned:

-Some weather sealing
-All cross-type AF sensors
-Pentaprism VF versus pentamirror VF
-Slightly larger VF
-Dedicated controls versus navigating through the menu

thick comfortable grip, XXD always had and still has it on any Rebel. Place to put your pinky on. Pentaprism viewfinder. Higher FPS.

OP, the things you mentioned are the 'special' things the 60d has over the t3i... at least that's enough for me

OP, the rebel AF and the 60D AF is actually a big difference. The 9 cross type AF points make it track off center action heck of allot better. And 5.3fps it a big jump form 3.7. So if action shooting is on the table but not enough to move to a 7D. The 60D will out preform the 600D in that department. And the top LCD is very nice to have. As I do not really use my lcd when shooting. And check everything with the top led, and leave the screen in the park protected position.

more like the 600D brings very little over the 550D. That's a very small upgrade.

Articulated screen and wireless flash trigger are the only two things that seems to have changed (at least, the only two things that caught my attention).

To be honest, I think that the T3i is the one that's in trouble, not the 60D. The 60D has a pentaprism viewfinder, cross type AF sensors, larger body, partial weather sealing, dedicated aperture controls, larger viewfinder, and faster burst rate.

Conversely, the T3i only has an articulating screen, newer kit lens with no optical improvements, and wireless flash control. Beyond that, I don't really see a reason to go for the T3i over the T2i beyond the newer model number.

That said, I'm still hoping the T2i drops in price. I'd love to try out video.

Well, slot the T2i at $600-$650, T3i at $750 and 60D at $900-$950, and I think it all makes sense, no?

you need to add the T3/1100D in there.

I may be biased as I am a 60D owner (and have been for just about a week now), but I chose it over the T2i for:

- ergonomics (coming from a 40D, the Rebel body just doesn't feel right, and the second control dial and top panel have always made the X0D series a pleasure to use over the rebels for me)
- cross-type AF points (I shoot in low-light without flash a lot, and my prior 40D found focus in darker light than I could reliably focus manually in. It was a clear step up from my Fiance's father's 30D in low light performance, and IIRC the 30D is where the T2i's AF system came from)
- battery life (the LP-E6 just keeps going, and going, and going)
- the rest - big pentaprism viewfinder, deeper frame buffer, higher FPS, and those 1/3 stop ISOs matter, especially when shooting video (160, 320, 640, etc have slightly less noise)

Now that they've given the T2i a swivel screen, it feels more like the proper "little brother" rebel version of the 60D (and I'm guessing the next 7D and 5D are going to get the swivel screen too), but it doesn't make me regret my purchase decision. I figure the handling comfort, AF, and battery life are worth the extra $200-$300.

I hope your right and the price of the 60D doesnt go up.. i've been anticipating on buying it for the past 1-2 months.. and now this 600D abomination comes out that i honestly see no use for.. seems like a t2i with a articulated screen.. are they squeezing out the t1i or t2i like they did to the XSi?

The 60D price will go up, the cost of inflation with the weak dollar.

I hope not. With the 5D and 7D targeted more towards professionals, I don't think they will give those swivel screens. Videographers--yes. Photographers--no. As an intern with AP, I have never seen the need (or had the time) to pull out and tilt the screen for a shot.
