Can 7D trigger 430ex II without radio triggers?

Hi guys, im just wanting to play with my flash being off camera, and was curious if the 7D was able to trigger the 430EX II wirelessly without the use of an additional trigger system? as i dont currently have a 580 II

Any help would be apreciated...

Yes. 7D has a wireless flash commander system built in using the onboard flash to communicate with the other speedlites. Since it is optical, this means line of sight only.

Or you can get fancy and use mirrors/reflective surfaces

In this case, no it doesn't. Very poor description of how the system works and the different modes. Go out and buy a book on the 7D - or better yet, go sit down and read it in the store and take notes!

Sure it's not the best-written piece of work, but the manual does have a section entitled "Controlling external speedlites" or something like that. Certainly enough to answer the yes/no question about whether it's possible.

That's the best way to learn it IMO. The manual got me up and running in a few minutes. And then I spent an evening playing around with different EETL and manual settings.

I will add that, in most of my indoor shooting, line of sight has not been necessary. The beam must bounce all over the place because it works really well for me.
