Should I buy a 24-105L for my 5d? I do portraits and weddings. If I do should I sell my tamron 28-75? Is it worth it?

Some people will tell you that the 24-70 f2.8 is better for weddings due to the extra stop of light. I think that attitude is slightly dated since with the 5D Mk II you can bump up the ISO and still get clean images (up to 1600 anyway). With the 5Dc 800 ISO gives acceptable noise.

Yeah, most everyone will tell you to get the Canon 24-70 2.8. Truthfully, you can work wonders with the sigma 24-70 2.8, Tamron 28-75 2.8, and Tamron 17-50 2.8... if you're on a budget. Perspective clients DO take your camera gear into consideration. It doesn't hurt to have plenty of expensive L-lenses and primes :D

I'm not sure I see the point of getting the 24-105mm for weddings. For the 70+ range, most people will tell you to go with the 70-200 2.8 II... or the 85L, 135L, 200L, etc... The smaller aperture on the 24-105 can be detrimental to low-light wedding shooting.

The newest standard zoom addition (Sigma 17-50mm OS) looks like it may be a good alternative, if you can afford more than the cheaper 3rd party alternatives listed above.

I would agree that the 24-105 f/4 may not give you enough speed in low light situations on a 5D especially for weddings. I have used the 24-105 for quite some time on a 5D and more recently on a 5D Mk II and it is an excellent quality lens. For portrait work I usually switch to the 70-200 f/2.8. Since the 5D Mk II produces much lower noise files than the original 5D at higher ISO's I find that I can keep the 24-105 on the Mk II in lower light situations and still get high quality files. MOkoFOko offers good advice. Good luck!

The 24-105 is fine for weddings. Loads of wedding photographers use them.
