This weeks challenge is now closed Thank you to everyone for supporting this week’s challenge. Very interesting interpretations of "BIRTH" for this challenge.

3rd Place goes to Robuk with “Newborn @ 1 Minute”. Really like the older lamb hanging under the mother while she cleans the newborn. May have been a higher placing if the newborn had been positioned the other way round where we could have seen its face and head. Nice though as it is!

2nd Place goes to Maureen Souza with “Meeting a New Brother”. Love the newborn's hand reaching out, and the older brother's expression! Nice exposure as well!

1st Place and the win goes to.....JOHN B with “Survival of the Fittest” This is a compelling interpretation, and I really like the emerging plant that appears to be surviving out of nothing more than a rock...and love the black background. The presentation with feaux mat and shadowing also contributes to viewing. Excellent!

A note: I really wanted to like Jason C's "A New Beginning". It was a super interpretation. However, there is a lot of noise in the shot...too much for the ISO it was shot at, and I would have preferred to see both sides of the eggshell in full focus. I thought the bokeh was excessive, and a couple of f/ stops difference might have garnered 1st place. Still.... a very nice shot!

John B, CONGRATULATIONS, and it’s now over to you for the next contest.

Congrats, John! Terrific shot and well deserved win! Well done Maureen & Robuk - great images! And Jason, I really liked how the shallow DOF gave your shot an intimate feel and the impression that whatever had hatched had just walked away a moment before we got there.

Thanks for the Honorable Mention and hearty congrats to John. This was a tough competition and I had a few bloody shots that I opted not to enter ;)
