Just an FYI because its easy to overlook with all of today's announcements but Canon is now using a new kit lens with a "look" that more closely matches the 18-135mm. Doesn't look like there are really any optics differences though...so meh.

It's purely cosmetic. Same optics and IS. Nothing to get too excited about.

The 600D gets a 'new' kit lens, the EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS II. According to Canon this is identical in specification to the previous version, and features exactly the same optics and IS system: it simply has a revised external design. The visible changes suggest a paring down of production costs, for example the 'white square' alignment mark for mounting the lens is now simply painted on, rather than moulded.

and there's also EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III

They've already done comparisons and the design specs clearly illustrate that they are the exact same minus minor cosmetic changes.

However, the new one IS II looks much much better than previous one. the letters on the lens are better too and looks more expensive, than the previous lens with miserable prints on stabilizer on off and af mf. I hate that cheap chinese look on the IS version. the black ring with 18-55 is better too, than the gray one.

It doesn't say made in japan anymore. Maybe it's not?

Dusted off the kit lens that came with my 550D and it's made in Japan, it says so on the mount of the lens instead of the front element area but from what I've heard, some of them are made elsewhere.
