Hi guys,

I am working on a project that's involving several P&S cameras, upwards of 8.

The most cost effective solution was to go with canon A530 or A540 as I need them to run CHDK. Problem is when I put in a SDHC card I get a memory card error upon boot up. A quick google turns up that the A530 only supports SD cards which only have a capacity of 2 gigs.

I require a few more gigs due to them running a timelapse type of setup in which I cant change out the cards.

Is there any possible way to get a SD card that has more then 2 gigs? or a way to get more capacity out of the camera?

Open to any suggestions!

Thanks!

SD Cards hit the limit at 2gig. see here (external link).
You'd probably have to build a custom SD interface, although I don't know if that would work, or hook up to a computer.

I installed a patch in my mobile to use SDHC in place of SD cards. You might get similar firmware upgrades to support SDHC in your cam(s).

Ya that seems to be the consenses.

There was something on the CHDK forum that I can't find again that said you could format a 4gb SD card to run fine with it but its next to impossible to find one as they technically are not suppose to function by nature.

I have found this though:
Possible Solution? (external link)

Which my understanding is, it makes a portional bootable in FAT16 for the camera and then you format the rest as FAT32 for the picture storing.

I'll have to give it a shot and hope that works.

I have a 4 GB plain SD card (it was a Transcend IIRC) that I bought for my Canon S2 IS (can only take SD as well). These cards became scarce once the SDHC spec was approved, but they do exist out there.

I'm off lining my cage with newspaper.
