UK...Where to see planes at Manchester Airport?

I'm spending the weekend in Manchester with the family in a couple of weeks, and we'll be staying very close to the airport. My daughter would enjoy seeing the planes land, and I would enjoy taking a few photos, too.

Does anyone know of a location to see this without going into the airport?

Maps, grid references, postcodes, sketches all welcome!

You can park up off Ringway Road and stand right at the start of the runway and the planes come in low over your head, or off to the side, depending where you are standing. When I first went there, they seem to almost clip the roofs of the houses on the opposite side of the road, but last time I went (some time ago) the residents had moved out and the houses were boarded up, so may have been demolished now. Best in the evening for photography due to the sun position

There is also a viewing park (just follow the signs) where you can just drive in and get a good view across the runway, but there are plenty of other observation points.

I just got that link, too...looks good. Trying to work out the best place to park and walk with the kids...

I managed to get quite close in the end, alongside the runways. I don't have good enough long glass for the dreary late afternoons in Manchester, though, so these are a little grainy!

Was quite pleased with them, though. All at full 300mm, as wide an aperture as possible (f5.6 ish).
