Is there a better alternative than the Canon 10-22mm?

A lot of these wide angles are really good and you can't go wrong with them. But they all do have their subtle differences. I see too much difference between the 11-16 and my 10-22, so I feel that I need both. The 10-22 is killer for outdoor shooting, with ridiculous flare resistance. It's strength is also it's MFD, allowing you to get some really interesting ultrawide closeup perspectives. And the difference between 10mm and 11 is significant. On the contrary, the Tokina is my killer indoor lens. The speed is awesome for low light. It doesn't fare quite as well in the sun as the Canon. It also has a much longer MFD which makes a huge difference on the closeup perspectives compared to the canon. One of my favourite ways to shoot the 10-22 is to shoot at 10mm and put something right up at MFD. It gives a very unique look.

From my understanding, the Canon 10-22 is better for outdoors, and the Tokina 11-16 is better for indoors, but if you have to choose ONE that is to be used for BOTH indoor & outdoor shooting, which you choose?

Basically, is the indoor performance of the Canon more acceptable or the outdoor performance of the Tokina, if that makes any sense.

I'd appreciate any input from anyone that has experience with both of these lenses, as I am torn between the two. Thanks

well if you sell it, you'll loose money on it...

you'll sell it for say example... $600/$650 ?? thats how much a new Tokina is... so its pretty much a sideways move.

like i said, just stick with your Canon. its a great lens.

Move from 10-22 to 11-16 is not a "sideways move" its a MAJOR upgrade. The Tokina is head and shoulders better than the Canon. FACT.

The canon handles flare and CA much better. Offers more reach aswell. So claiming the Tokina is 'head and shoulders better' is daft.

This must be some strange, new usage of the word 'FACT' with which I am unfamiliar. Although I have noticed the tendency on the Interwebs for capitalised words to take on the opposite of their normal meaning. What muusers said is fact. I own both, I should know.
