Nice shots! I tell you, that global warming sure makes it cold out there.

I think the IQ is very nice Harvey, those are very nice shots, send him back south for a bit I don't think he will find much food there now, or open water

Great captures Harvey , I was told the older GBH will stay if it can have a food source . Staying in the cold instead of spending its energy flying South .

A little L goes a long way.

Great shots Harvey....he's probably wishing he had headed south back around Oct-Sept.

I think you nailed the IQ - the eyes really pop!
Are those white feathers under his beak, or snow? Thanks for posting, that was a nice series.

Nice shots and good reminders on having a camera handy and avoiding stress for our models.

Snydremark wrote in post #11795338 (external link)
Those look fine given your shooting conditions, Harvey :) And wow....that is one cold, lost looking bird.

Wanderlost: The "beard" feathers on these guys are white.

He looks pretty cold Buddy #2 for me!!

Very nice capture. I especially like the crop on #3.

Our Great Blue Herons seem willing to stick around all winter if the river doesn't get completely frozen over. I've seen them standing knee deep in water when the air temperatures have been -5°F.

If these are your shots from poor conditions, some of us have a long way to come;)

Very nice set Harv!
(we have GBH's out here as well)

Nighthound wrote in post #11797037 (external link)
It didn't leave because its frozen solid. :)

These birds are actually pretty cold weather hearty. They don't seem to enjoy it but when the temps drop well below freezing here they look much like the one in your shots. Kind of pitiful isn't it?

Very well done on these Harv. the exposures are dead on and the detail is great.

One more accolade, Harvey, nicely done. I can relate well to poor shooting conditions these days! I feel like that heron looks...;)

A disgruntled look to be sure, poised in a "Siberian Slouch" ... and the shots certainly show a look of winter disgust, shared by many of us :) It is not always you see a GBH standing in snow... Congrats on the find Harvey and the captures are perfect as always.

Great shots Harv. You've really captured the mood of the very cold morning. Apparently Brampton was -15C this morning so you must have been a few degrees colder.
