I just got this cool pink paper, but I am having a problem with it reflecting on the subject.

This pic is under exposed, and because of that it should be a reject, how ever I think its cute and really would like to attempt fixing it.

Her head is picking up so much pink from the paper I am not sure how to go about correcting this shot. I use LR and Photoshop Elements.

I would assume if shooting a baby crawling on Pink I should get a low white reflector to shine white on her face if I was to re shoot this? but for now I am interested in correcting the image.

Thanks

Just real quick -- gotta run to supper, more later, I hope --

In Elements, use the Magic Selection Brush to select all of the pink area. Invert the selection. Use Select > Refine Edge to expand/contract as needed and to feather the edge a bit. Add a Hue/Saturation layer, which will be masked by the (inverted) selection. In the HSL panel, select Reds from the drop-down (says Master by default) then click on the first eyedropper tool and click that on the pink under the baby. Run the Saturation slider back to -70 or so.

See if that doesn't look better to you -- that should at least get you started in the right direction.

If that didn't work start fresh and open a curves adjustment layer and use the grey eye dropper on the white of the left eye as you look at the image. then select the background layer again and open a new layer above that now with the eye dropper tool select a tone on the child's face that is neither in the shadow or highlight and not pink. Now grab a paint soft brush of a medium size and paint over the pink. Set that layer to color and back the opacity back to ~28% or to your liking.

OK, I'm back. -70 on the Saturation is a bit much, maybe more like -50. Also, after you get the selection inverted you will need to paint some black on the mask to protect the brown rug and logo from the Saturation adjustment. Finally, I added a Levels layer and moved the right slider back to 233 to brighten, and then used the Shadows/Highlights control to bring the shadows up a bit and the highlights down a bit. I know next to nothing about photographing people so I'm just tinkering at this point. Well, maybe anyway this gives you one thing to try until someone more experienced jumps in.

Select the skin (by whatever means you have in Elements). Open a curves adjustment layer. The selection will create the mask. In curves:

- increase red,

- increase green to the point where skin tones begin to look slightly yellow, then

- increase blue to compensate for that.

Set the control points for these changes on the skin tones. If you're not comfortable with curves, color balance will do it. Work mostly in the highlights.

I cheated and used 2 NIK apps-- ColorEfex Pro and Viveza. I used ColorEfex Pro to remove the color cast from skin and reflective parts of her dress. Used Viveza to lighten shadows somewhat.

This is purely a matter of personal preference, but I think a muted, complementary background would do this little cutie
more justice. (I haven't wiped out all the pink. Just a quick illustration here.)

Wow... With a different color background, you can really see how much pink is reflected in the ribbon on the dress.

Really! It spilled all over everything. I'm just guessing that this is closer to reality.

Still pink reflected off the sequins and in the shadow under her arm on the right.

I followed Rimmers advice and this is the result. It took about 15 minutes I also cropped out the bottom and fixed some spots in the pink.
