Tell her you're going to move into her house and kick her out, and it's perfectly legal because her name isn't painted on the front door.

Just because you do not see a sign stating, this belongs to ________ does not mean that it is fair game and up for Grabs!

Your front door is not locked, do I come in make myself dinner and then get comfortable.

Your jewelry is something I want. I take it. You scream it was yours and you were wearing it. So what.

That's a nice barbecue grill you have in your fenced backyard. Ah no problem I can hope the fence ( right click ) and take it. Can you prove it is yours.
- it was in your backyard you say, humm that photograph was on who's website.

It was someone's website you stole from. There is no difference.

Well I have ID, I have a social security number. So, they have an IP address.
_______,

People know the reality, they simply choose to ignore it, so they can justify there actions, for what ever carnal reason. Lust, Greed, Desire, Ambition ....

What was it - Forest Gump said " Stupid is as Stupid does "

Common Sense, Honor and Integrity - keep Honest people, Honest.
Lack of those qualities, make shady thiefs of their own Virtue!

I get the point of these analygies so don't get me wrong but if she picks up on it she'll come back with intelectual property and physical property as subject to different laws, so be ready for it hhaa. I can't spell...

Go steal her dog or cat & take the collar/tag off if it's wearing it. Just say that you saw it outside & you wanted it, so you removed it's identifying info from it.

Then...be generous & return said dog or cat ;)

Actually, no. When the question is "who owns the copyright," that's subject to the federal statute, but when copyright ownership is not the question, copyright can be handled under state laws just like any other property.

This was about proving her wrong by providing the .gov link bove, not throwing all these examples as I do live with her. She admitted she was wrong, and said I was right, which was all I wanted=)

actually any images uploaded to say flickr facebook etc then become the property of said sites. Obviously not the originals but the ones you upload. If someone then takes that image of one of the aforementioned websites they are not stealing from you but rather the owners of the site.

This. BTW, your friend is an idiot. I like Mike's concept. Go over one day and take their car. Tell them the keys were on the counter and didn't have anyone's name on it.

Don't do that, the penalties for stealing a car is a whole lot more than copyright infringement!

No, the images do not become the property of flickr. They have no copyright claims on the images. They may have some limited usage for display purposes, but not copyright. If someone takes your images from flickr and uses them you still have a copyright violation claim against them. Unless Australian law is very radically different than U.S. I suspect its the same there.

Isn't the point that she's trying to say it's fair game if it's on the net without a watermark? Because that is an issue of who owns copyright, obviously our friend here does but she *used to* think that the image was up for grabs.

Either way physical property and intelletual property are apples and oranges.

As I understand the situation, ownership was not in dispute. Nobody was saying, "That is my picture." She was saying, "If you put your picture on the internet, then I can use it freely."
