I have a 5D2 w/24-70 and 24-105. I take family and social pictures and vacation outdoors pictures. I usually end up doing serious cropping. As the title suggests, I'm considering the 7D or the 16-35. I love the 5D2, but I get a little nervous on trips with no safety net of a BU. I need some suggestions. I'm a Canon lens guy, so I can't see going with another brand. The UWA really interests me. In another life, I had a 17-40 and a 17-55. Neither really floated my boat, though.

So, advice?

agree on this.. or if you really like to have an UWA lens, you might want to consider the 7D or perhaps a less expensive T2i (which has almost same image quality with 7D) then pair it up with an EF-S 10-22... you'll end up spending almost or a little more than the 16-35, however, you get to have a back-up camera

Why not consider a used 5D "Classic" if you need a backup body? It's quite affordable and you would have a full frame backup. On the other hand, the 7D provides excellent autofocus and plays very well with tele lenses.

Thanks to all for the good advice. Now, back to the deciding.
