Help,
this was taken at farmoor reservoir, oxfordshire. i think it's a immature sandpiper, but can any UK birder/photographer possitively identify it?

Glenn.

p.s. taken with canon 20d +300f4 +1.4t/c

Glenn, That's a good shot of a Dunlin. Still moulting into winter plumage.

Wilf,
thanks for the quick reply, funnily enough i was almost convinced it was a sandpiper as i had just seen another thread by Scottes (usa ) about a least sandpiper which looked very similar, but i can find no record of a Least sandpiper in the UK, so i was convinced it was different type of wader,

i will now go looking at Dunlins.

thanks for looking.

Glenn

Outstanding capture. Focus, exposure and composition are all perfect. Looks like our Dunlins here.

Yes, it looks *very* similar to a Least Sandpiper, but the Least's green legs are a giveaway.

Identifying some of these shorebirds can be very tough...

Great shot, by the way!

It's a really great shot, IMO.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Scottes, i didn't spot the green legs on your pic's( can't veiw your picture's of a least sandpiper at the momment, not sure why? ) just goes to show its sometimes the small things that make a difference.

Thanks again for looking and taking the time to comment.

Glenn.
