no, the US does not have a VAT, so no VAT refund like in the EU. State sales taxes do not get refunded.

PS

That is why some big department stores like Macys in NYC give Foreign visitors a 15% discount. If you go to their customer service desk and show them the passport to off set the sales tax. But this does not happen at most stores.

Ahh makes sense in a way, saying that i would prefere to pay 8.5% than 20%

Would these apply to CLP purchases? I believe I saw in another thread someone was reasoning a rebate on a 5D MkII used with CLP and the resulting price

it depends on the state, if canon has a nexus point in that state and that state charges sales tax. You will have to pay the sales tax. The sales tax is confusing for allot of visitors. The state of Delaware for example has no sales tax. So what the price is it the price.

They might apply "kind of". There might be a discount on refurbs, but more than likely the discount will only apply to NEW bodies. If there is a discount on refurbs, it definitely won't be the full $100-$200. Even then, CLP is a flat 80% of the current refurb prices through canon.

So is anyone going to answer the question? Will the prices rise and then the rebate will bring down to what it currently is or with current prices and rebate?

Alright. That would be cool if I could get a little more off. I'm looking into a 7D through CLP.. Called last week and got a price of $1088 from them. I am waiting for my tax refund to come back to upgrade, so it will likely be a week or so before I get it back. I guess in the mean time I can look for an old powershot to send in rather than disabling my old SD200 in order to send it in :p Even if I got $50 off, that would take care of the taxes and bring it back down to around the same price...

I just checked UPS's tracking and my time machine should come by the end of day tomorrow, so I'll hop on and go to Feb 20 and come back and tell you. I'll get the lotto numbers too just for the heck of it.

Nope, he accidentally met himself in the future, and entered into one of those time paradoxes that were so frequently referenced in "back to the future".

"Hey, it's me from the past!"
"Time to make a like a tree, and get outta here!"
