The American Society of Media Photographers have put together a website repository of the current "best" practices in photography, processing and output.

The reason I put best in quotes, is because what is "best" for one group (Media Photographers) might not be best for everyone, but still, it is a well thought out, well presented, deep enough but still accessible for a new photographer to understand.
Everything from hardware, to color spaces, to editing, to copyright.
Nice glossary too. (Except they didn't include "pop" and "selective coloring" - ha ha, maybe it is too sophisticated for the noob!)
