I can get a 7D for £959 (free delivery) from http://www.simplyelectronics.net/mainproduct.php?pid=7797 (external link)
This is by far the cheapest anywhere. They are a Hong Kong company shipping from the UK. They offer a 12 month warranty. Is there any difference betwen this one and one from a recocognised UK Canon dealer?

thanks :)

Speak to Kerso, a little more money I think but has an excellent reputation and the camera will have a 1yr Canon warranty.

Maybe, but I could have been unclear - they are going to take your money and not send you a camera. 99.99% of the deals on the 'net that are too good to be true...are.

Ask him (and let me know :) )
I *think* the video mode is selectable in the camera.

Charger lead will have a US plug I guess, but easy enough to use an adapter or just swap the lead out, I am pretty sure chargers are dual voltage.

For the US guys who are looking in, you have to be careful buying in the UK, there are some shops who import stuff from Asia and sell it cheaper than the normal price, the problem is you end up with no warranty because Canon UK will not cover these cameras. Some shops offer 3rd party or their own warranty to replace the Canon one, certainly some of the customer service from these shops isn't always the best.
The shop (Kerso) we are talking about sells imported US gear, but he supplies a UK receipt and thus Canon UK will cover the camera. I've not yet bought from him but he has a very good reputation.

Charger is a different unit, the US one plugs directly into the wall socket with the power socket pins being part of the unit.

Elsewhere the charger has a cable that plugs into the wall socket and into the charger. The US charger still works on 220/240V though, so all you need is an adapter plug/socket to your local type of power socket. I have a US 7D in Australia so I know this works and is ok, although the unit is quite heavy with a battery inserted and wants to pull itself out of the wall socket. For this reason I recommend a powerboard on a flat surface like a benchtop...

Video type is switchable in the camera's software between PAL and NTSC.

thks, Mick

In some cases, like when I bought my 40D in the US, they did also sell the "E version" (European?) of the charger, that with a cable. Since the cable is detachable, you only need to rob a cable from a radio or something, then you have the same thing as you would get buying here in Europe.
The cable I did get I now use to power my laptop when I'm in the US, saving me keeping track of an adapter all the time.
