I love this picture just because the rider is having such a good time that it shows on her face.

A couple from a local agricultural show last year - they're staring again soon so may have another go...

Got a call about a month ago from a delightful young lady that I had done senior photos for about a year ago. She needed another session for her new horse, a mustang. After talking with her I came to find out that she is competing in the Extreme Mustang Make Over in Fort Worth, TX. She informed me that she needed a poster for her stall front for the competition. We decided on a portrait in the center of the poster with "action" shots around the outside. So this is what we came up with.

As you look at these keep in mind: 1) this is an amateur girl, not a trainer, just starting college, and 2) 3 months ago (from the time of the shoot) this mustang had never been touched by a human being!

The competition in Fort Worth starts today.

Borderfox - I am trying to picture the scenario leading up to that fall at the liverpool. I'm guessing the horse stopped, then jumped, cause otherwise the rider just musta fallen right off the side. But the rider seems to have left the top rail up and gone through the middle. Oddest fall I've ever seen. The horse is jumping with beautiful form despite going it alone! Great capture

They went in and jumped the first fence and he dropped all legs in the middle of it, rebuilt the fence and continued jumping till this fence (no 5) just before take off the horse dropped one shoulder and dumped the rider between the top and bottom pole directly into the water while jumping the fence beautifully. Rider was fine but quite embarassed.

The young kid where the horse flipped over backwards on him ended up getting taken to hospital with a broken arm, the others just bruised pride

SevenD, those all look good, but you might try to catch the jump a little earlier. In all 3, they are on the way down. Try to catch them at their highest point or even a little earlier - that is what the riders here want to see in shots of themselves.

I chose those three shots because in the first photo I liked the riders face and colorful intriguing background , in #2 turning in mid air and #3 the height
