So I'm at the juncture where I'm looking into a personal website with proofing and seems everyone's raving about Smugmug. I started the trial which is easy enough, but when I looked into the forums I found this and it's a tad worrysome.

Anyone have problems not resolved or anything negative happen via Smugmug?

I have used smugmug for a couple years, and haven't had any major issues. Andy has been very helpful when i have ever asked a question.
My site is www.tomhedlund.com (external link) , i have a lot of work to do to it, but i'm getting there.

I wouldn't worry about it. The thread you're referring to....The guy has too many spammy-looking keywords and I think Google finally found it, just like Andy mentioned.

I too have a Smugmug site (external link).

Looks pretty good so far! ... do you know if there's a way for clients to "fave" photos in your proofing gallery?

I use smugmug myself for my website. I have no idea why it took me so long. I've gone through a few iterations of the home / etntry page (thanks to Mike and some others here!) but that's one of the benefits about Smugmug.. easily customizable at your own pace.

Oh, and ordering/delivery couldn't be easier. The whole setup at smugmug is really impressive.

I have used SmugMug for several years and have been extremely happy with their service. You simply won't find better customer service anywhere. They answer emails within minutes with real, personalized responses.

I can't say enough good things about my experience with SmugMug.

Honestly, what I got out of that thread is great customer service, which I have received every time I've needed it with Smugmug. Andy is always on the ball and so are the rest of the staff, if they don't have an answer for you, they'll find it. I had a huge problem where my CNAME stopped working and Smugmug worked with my host to find out what the problem was.
I've been a smugmugger for 3 years and I'm always amazed at how much they are always revamping and adding new features and tweaking old ones. Their forums are super active, and if you have a pro account, its ridiculously customizable.

Yeah I had issues when I was just on a trial with them, they had support working with me over the weekend to roll out the issues.

I was looking at one of the flash sites, and whilst they are easier to set up, long run they are far more work. Once you figure out the coding, Smugmug is simple. Don't forget to put POTN as the code when you sign up for your first year- will get you 20% off ;)

DOn't worry about that muppet on Dgrin- as you can see, they've tried to help him and he won't listen. He believes spamming his search engine hits is the way to go. He won't listen despite them trying to help. How many COO's offer to personally help anyone anyway?

I'm sure that there is a way. but i don't know how. They have a huge customization support forum, I'm sure that they can fix you up.

Mike great website!

Another happy SmugMug customer here - I've run into a few things where I want my site to do something SmugMug doesn't (category / sub category / sub category / event layout, for example) - but nothing so bad I'd be upset.

Seconded - that thread looks like one guy who's just going at things the wrong way, he was helped by the COO and offered a refund over and over. Can't help some people.

About your "Favorite" question - customers can hit a Facebook "Like" button in any gallery, but you can't track that. For them to Favroite something in a way you can track, you need to setup an Event, and put the gallery in that - you can't do it directly in normal galleries.

I love SmugMug! I haven't dived into it much but from what I have done with it so far I am liking it. My first intention was to use it as a proofing site but I think I may eventually build a true web site with it in the very near future.

Is the Event a separate entity on the menu bar then?

Hmm, sounds like the win to fail percentage is a no brainer. Now all i have to do is figure out what settings to use for uploading my pics to the site from Lightroom. I have the publishing thing set up. Does anyone have a simple solution for resizing photos for Smugmug to be uploaded within size limits, yet keeping quality? I'm a noob at resizing and sharpening for the web!

I appreciate all the feedback :)
