i did try both. aside from being larger i find the construction of both 1.4 and 1.2 are solid in general whether slightly larger or not (not including the 1.8 here).
i owned my 1.4 for 2 years now use it all the time its quick sharp gets great bokeh etc. for me and ppl like me 1200$ is just a huge jump for 1/2 a stop more. however im NOT knocking the lens itself. If i had the money yea i too would indulge in the newer one. no doubt but for 300$ more i bought me a 16-35L .
what can i say photography is an expensive hobby any way you look at it.

dude... calm down. no one is saying you should buy the 1.2 he is just happy about getting his. why are you trying to convince him it was a "bad buy" after he already has it?

congrats on the new lens btw teeboi. looking forward to more of your shots

I must say metalordie, reading through his thread, your post in this thread are quite bizzare.

The guy got a 50L and is posting a thread with his joy's expressed and some photo's he took with it.

You respond with how wonderful the 50 1.4 is, post photo's taken with the 1.4 in his thread, and get into debates over whats a better value/deal :| ?

Really ??

I find your 16-35L thread quite... interesting also ;)

The first two pics - I like! Congrats for buying this lens. I've ordered it on the other day. Will probably get it tomorrow or on thursday at the latest. Can't wait.

I had a hard time deciding whether to go for the 50/1.4 or the L. I have 50/1.8 - my first prime ever - broke it and replaced it with another copy a couple of years ago. Time to move on. I am very happy with my 100 L. I am happy with my 70-200 4 L. I am quiet happy with my 24-70 L. So why not L again!? The build qaulity and the bokeh of the 50 L is great. So 50 L it is! Seeing forward posting photos soon.

You won't regret your decision. Ever since I got my 50L I haven't used anything else.

not to mention both produce exceptional quality pics. 1200$ is just steep to me!

Look at the MF primes thread -- you can get a very similar result if you are willing to manually focus for a lot less cash.

I just made the jump too. Will have it in two days. I have been conflicted about this. I got a good deal, so it was time to move on. I have had them all. 50\1.8 v 1&2. 50\1.4, sigmalux 50\1.4. Now I will finally get the real thing. I am very exited. It sure is beautiful to look at, if it takes beautiful pictures too, then it's all I can ask for. Do you have picture of the 50 L connected to your camera?

Very nice pictures. I notice that many 50mm L pictures are a bit light, like they seem slightly overexposed. Is this a feature of the lens?
