Hi guys

Had my first real day out shooting at my local airport (Zurich) this year. Was nice to be out again. Anyway, just the usual suspects that we get here, nothing special, although I do like the A380.
All shot with 7D and 100-400 L. Exif intact.

Full gallery HERE 60 pics (external link)

Enjoy, Chris

1. A380 nose with all the bits attatched getting ready.

8. Thai A340-600. This really is big compared to our 300 series.

Nice series of pictures. Quite a large turnout of photogs along the fence judging by the third picture.

LOL at number six (someone should be shot!)

And wow, that Thai 340 is enormous.

I have shot at my local airport (and train yards) I have a great interest in both. I will check in with security to find where I may and may NOT go to.
Have any of you folks shooting at airports been harrassed by security people? I was almost arrested at my local airport standing OUTSIDE the fence in a public area. Just taking pics of arriving and departing aircraft. Just post 9-11 paranoia???

Thanks guys,

Yes, lots of people along the fence, but there is path all around the airport, and it's quite spotter/photog friendly here. Also, it was sunday, and we don't have sunday opening for shops, so the airport becomes a popular place to go.
I think each airport is different in it's approach to photogs coming and where you can shoot pics from. I've been moved along from some, and others are fine about it.

lol @ the Hippy Express scheme on the A340. it was mentioned in Airliners magazine about the gaudy livery on that one.

Thanks guys

Thats' not a lot of spotters for this place. Down at the approach area to runway 16, there is a dedicated area, where there are food and drink stalls set up right under the approach. Sundays, it is full to bursting in the car park.
And when the Airbus A380 came in for testing last January, arriving at 0700 in the morning, it was cold, damp, very misty, yet over 20,000 people turned up to see it.

20,000!!!!! That's insane! Although I would like to see it myself. Thanks for posting. Must be an impressive plane.

correct, that's a towbar-less tractor. lifts the nose gear off the ground just high enough to tote around the aircraft. doesn't require ground crew to supervise the brakes in the flight deck.

(they're a blast to drive around too)

My son works just outside Mold and often sees the 380s going into the Broughton factory. When I went up to see him in November though they seemed to be reducing production as the number of flights were much reduced and I did not get to see any myself. I should be going up to collect him when ha finisshes work at Easter and I hope to go have a look at both Broughton and the Mach Loop.

Thanks again guys.

It's definately worth seeing one of these beasties, deceptively sized, never seems to be going fast enough to get airbourne :-)
