I am not getting one and selected View Poll Results

This poll is for those buying the lens.

With the Canon 200-400 F4 1.4x extender anounced! going beyond 33 pages it appears a lot of people are buying this lens.

Just curious how this will fit into your gear lineup. Are you adding this to complement or as a replacement?

As Canon has yet to release lens specs & MSPR use these assumptions.

Weight: 2.6-3.1kg (5.7-6.8lbs)

Dimension: 124 x 381mm (4.9 x 15 in)

Closest Focusing Distance: 1.5-2m (4.9-6.6ft.)

MSRP: US$7,700-8,400

Ships: After July but before December 2011

Granted, if anyone can add "No, I'm NOT buying the new Canon 200-400mm f/4L IS" please do so.

it appears a lot of people are buying this lens.

It certainly appears like there're a lot of people wishing they could own this lens, but I highly doubt there're a lot of people ready to spend ~8k on a single lens.

The price makes it lack a position in my buying mind.

I think if I shot a very specific sport, say gymnastics, and I had to have exactly that range at f/4 to get paid, maybe.

I'm sure it is exactly the right lens for something. Just haven't figured out what yet.

I think this thread sets the Internet record for the most voting options with the fewest voting responses. :)

If you added a "No" option, that would be by far the largest vote getter. This is a high priced, specialty lens for a small select group of photographers.

It would be perfect on for example africa safari as a replacement of 100-400. I would love to have this new lens for that. But as many already said not at that price unless I winn big time in lotto

I'm very interested in this lens, but I think I'm more interested in the Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS that should hit the shelves before this one...
