Hey guys,
I just picked up my 60d last night WOOHOO! SOOOO much nicer than the rebel xs i have. I went to put my Quantaray QDC 900WA on and it will not fire. I blew my load on the camera and dont want to tell the wifey that I need MORE money. Any ideas? Anybody have this issue? Thanks in advance.

Ha I finally have a gear list!
Canon 60D, 18-135, 50 1.8, 55-250,
Canon Rebel XS 18-55. Some flashes and filters and a tripod with a bag to put it all in!

I have no clue, but maybe this question would be answered faster in the Lighting section? Congratz on the 60D!

That cracked me up! :D

Anyway, have you checked the batteries? Does the flash have a test mode? If so, have you checked that? Also try cleaning the connectors on the flash.

BAHAHAHA I just realized how that looks when you put it in bold. D'oh! I will check batteries and contacts and then ask around in lighting.

alrighty batteries are new. no test mode on the flash, and connectors cleaned. i took it off the 60 and put it on the xs and it worked fine. for some reason quantaray does not have a website(not sure why) so i cant get a hold of custom support which i think is b.s. I contacted canon and they get back to me as soon as possible. in the meantime if anyone can help please do, i hate the on camera overexposure light(flash)

ANY response from the flash? Does it have an AF beam or can you hear the head zoom when you zoom the lens, etc... (not familiar with that model flash specifically).

Have you tried shooting in full manual [M] mode to see if it fires then?

I've used my Yungnuo YN467 on my Dad's 60D and it works as-intended... <shrug>

Try a Canon speedlite on your 60D. A flash in M is really a very dumb device, with the single contact there to trigger it, if it doesn't work something's seriously wrong.

Just got a response from canon. They say that since its not a canon they are sorry it doesnt work, and that i need to buy a canon ex speedlight. not much help there but oh well. plus unfortunately I dont know any other canon photographers that have a speedlight, so i cant try any flash unless im gonna buy it.

I had purchased an off brand flash and it won't work on my camera. Found out that when I tightened the flash to the shoe that the contacts were not making contact. Put a spacer between the flash and shoe so that it would tighten down farther and contact was made. Worked fine but felt that I shouldn't have to put a spacer every time I wanted to use the flash. Took it back and got a Canon flash.

Browse the classifieds section. You can get a used 430EX for around $150. I would go this route or you can checkout Yongnuo flashes. They are very affordable.

I was wondering if it might not be a contact issue as well. Do you have any off-camera triggers or something else you could put on the hot shoe to confirm that it's making contact?

Time to find a local friend with another flash... to at least help determine if it's a flash or camera issue.

Check to see if your hot shoe is working. Also make sure the flash is making a connection to the hot shoe. You can also try connecting the flash to camera via pc connection.
