I had this problem with a third party flash, wouldn't work on my 60D but would on my XS and my mums 50D. After trying a few things the only solution was to get a canon speedlite, which i did today. It works perfectly!

i know the camera is sending a signal to the flash the e-ttl light is coming on, and you can hear the flash trying to zoom in and out. so i am under the assumption that the hot shoe is working. what is a pc connection? i tried the spacer approach but same outcome.

You aren't using live view, are you? If so, turn it off and try again.

Non Canon dedicated flashes don't fire in live view, if any of the silent shooting modes is selected. So it could, but seems nott to be the case here.

Shot in the dark. Just trying to help. Sorry for wasting your time.

all right, wifey said i can spend some more money on a flash. that said, i still cant afford brand new. I need some help from everybody as to what flash to buy. i dont think the 280ex has enough oomph and the 580 is too expensive. what is everyones opinion abot the flashes in between? please help me!

alrighty looks like the 430ex it is then! I was kinda leaning that way as it were anyway. I think it looks like it is comparable to the flash I have and it will work with 60d(bonus!). I really appreciate everyones input and advise. this is why i love this forum so much. Thanks again!

May I also suggest you go to a local store to test out with a 430EX II? It seems that you have not yet ruled out the possibility that it is the 60D that is faulty. It is unlikely, but still possible.

IF the 60D has custom functions try changing the flash mode from
eTTL II to just eTTL. That flash is not compatible with the newer eTTL II tech.

If that doesn't work and newer flashes do then it is time to upgrade. I have the same flash it works on my XTi but not the 7D.

i agree.. go to a store and see if a flash works on it first... you dont want to be disappointed if you get the new flash in and it still doesnt work.. now at least you will have a new flash!!!!

i opted to buy a non canon for my t2i.. yn-468 from ebay... $100 new.. 6mo warranty and they said works with my camera...
