Say I'm taking a picture of a sky scraper with a 70-200. Can I start at the base, work my way up and stitch them together in photomerge?

Nope was no need to rotate :) I shot the first picture which was the rocks to the base of the mountains then a 2nd picture which was the mountain and the sky. Opened it u pin Photoshop and went to photo merge and it sorted out the orientation for my no problem. all I had to do was a little cropping to get the frame I wanted.

I have also done this in the past with up to 8 photos and stitched vertically without a problem. This picture below is 6 landscape shots joined together to create the vertorama.
