Hey guys, I recently picked up a brand new 35L UY11xx and noticed something about the lens hood. When I see other lenses with their hoods, the canon logo on the hood (Canon EW-78 etc.) faces up. When I align the red dot on my hood and 35L, and lock it in clockwise, the logo faces down. Is it suppose to be like this?

If you hadn't said that you bought it new, then I would've suggested that maybe you have an aftermarket (ebay) one. That is strange.

The weird thing is that I bought it from Adorama too!

On all Canon lenses this is the case. If you align the dots it mounts the logo on the bottom. It can be mounted either way though. Not really a big difference

But the thing is that when I align the dots, it mounts the logo on the bottom.

That's how they're all supposed to be. For some unknown reason a lot of people mount them upside down. But if you line up the dots, the lettering is supposed to be on the bottom of the hood.

Really? Wow, if that's the case then I shall think no further. :D

Last question ;) Which way would you mount it if it was reversed for when it is not in use?

Either way you want.

If you align the dots the logo goes on the bottom. If you DON'T align the dots the logo ends up at the top.

If it's reversed...well you're not using the lens so it doesn't really matter, does it? :p

Once, a Canon tech told me that if you mounted the hood upside down (ie. the logo on top) it would affect focus heavily!! :p
