Get the 1D Mark IV. It's the same difference as between the 40D (which shares the display component with the 1D Mark III) and the 7D.

I never really had complaints about the 1dmk3's lcd. I have a calibrated monitor with the brightness settings perfect for print (matches the print exposure/brightness perfectly with the noritsu mini lab my lab uses). I shoot my 1dmk3 and try to match the brightness of the lcd to my home monitor.

Sharpness wise I do exactly what Nick-san says. Get accustomed to what "sharp is" on the lcd. I've never really had a problem.

As as already been mentioned, the display itself is beautifully sharp - zoom in on something in Live View at 10x and see how razor-sharp it is!

But when reviewing an image, it doesn't extract the whole image, just the thumbnail, and THAT is what appears soft.

As everyone has mentioned, use it judge timing and composition. Worry about sharpness on the computer.

And I never noticed any color casts on mine, either. I never use it set white balance, but the shots don't ever have any color cast. It's sufficiently color-accurate that when I'm shooting under incandescent and have flash or daylight white balance selected it's obvious and I immediately fix it.

Put differently, the only change I noticed going to the 5D2 was the sharper review JPG, and that's it!

It's an amazing camera - shoot something timing-critical with it and enjoy that insanely-low shutter lag!

Solution is simple.......don't use your LCD to compose your shots, maybe for framing. Look at the histogram for exposure. For sharpness and AF accuracy? With enough experiences, you should know if you have nailed the focus.

Exactly!
