There's no real "normal" amount. Some photographers deliver an obscene number of photos (to the point that I have no idea how they had time to take them all), while some deliver a relative few....it all depends on your style.
Another thing to think about, what if the client wants a CD of all of the files to do their own printing? I would imagine that you would price accordingly. When you factor in a couple of days of work and business overhead (such as insurance, taxes, equipment, web hosting, health insurance, studio rental, etc....), that $800 dollar quote doesn't seem so extreme.
