I was selling this lens (70-200mm 2.8 IS, and person who was going to buy it. Held it up to a bright street light, we could see lots of dust. Which looks to be inside the lens. Under normal lighting you don't see anything. I've never noticed anything on the pics. Is it worth getting it cleaned by Canon?

Probably not. All used lenses have some amount of dust inside of them. 99% of the time it does not affect results. But, there are a few fanatics about having perfect equipment out there.

I would never stop myself from buying a lens just because of a few specs of dust.

But he has to convince the buyer it is OK. Guess you discovered the 70-200 won't fit onto your G11.

It takes a lot to affect IQ on a lens. I would show the buyer this link http://www.lensrentals.com …0/front-element-scratches (external link)

Dust would have less of an effect than scratches I would think.

At times I think people get fanatical about things. I've never noticed any issues due to dust. My old 17-40L spent lots of time in dusty environments, and kept on working.

I like that link. It makes me feel better for the times I don't clean my front element :)
