On location and how I do it. Usually I light stands for the background lights.

And most important what it looks like

As you notice I do things a little different in that I usually shoot the B/G lights into the back of the B/G. It really keeps light spillage off the subject.

Hi Allen,

I remember you telling me that's how you were lighting white seamless and it's a great setup. I wish I had the extra space to pull the seamless forward and tuck the lights behind it.

Very Cool!

Thanks, I thought some, when in these kind of circumstances, might find this useful. Well, I didn't have that much space. As you can see I had to use the counter top instead of stands for the B/G lights.

Hmm. Well that's one way to do it! Does it actually blow out the BG or is there a lot of dodging to do in post? I do like how there is less overspill!

Great setup.

I'd do the same but my 2nd Travelite is still in transit after repairs.

Tomorrow night I have a gig to shoot some couple/family portraits at church. I have plenty of space, but only 1 Travelite 750 and a 580. I'm thinking of:

Key - Travelite with 30"x40" softbox at camera axis, slightly raised above, pointing downwards
BG - 580 bounced with silver umbrella, placed directly behind subjects towards the white seamless

Does that sound okay? I have other mods like beauty dish/shoot-thru umbrella, but I'm thinking this is simple.

Sorry for the hijack, BTW :)

Great Idea as others have said I wish had that much space.

I usually set the lights to render the B/G so its three full stops hotter than 18% gray about zone VIII or two full stops hotter than most untanned caucasian skin tone.

Nice. That's what I do to light my BG up too. I did a lot of testing with regards to light spill and it surprised me how well it works.

What's the other stuff in the middle of that room? I was wondering why you can't make more room there.
