Has anyone any experience of this grip and these batteries for the 7D?

That's not a real Canon product. Just so you know. It's an off-brand knock-off. Just so you know what you're thinking of getting. Will you know who to return it to for refund if it quits working in a few months?

i have the opteka grip for my 7D and there is no problems with it..most of those 3rd party grips are 100% identical to the canon one just are not stamped canon..people will claim the canon one is soo much better but thats mainly cause they paid the over priced amount for it.

My gear

R7, 7D, Canon RF 14-35 f4L, Canon RF 50 1.8 STM, Tamron 70-200 G2, Canon 100-400LII, Canon EF-RF

Seems like he's aware of that :) And i guess you're one of those who think that just because the battery grip is stamped with the real Canon-logo it makes it so much better? :)
The battery grip is luckily not a complicated construction to replicate.

+1
Just like people will rather buy armani, gucci, ferrari, porsche or whatever just because of the logo rather than for what it is really worth!

I have a 3rd party grip on my 450D and it's been working flawlessly for months. No signs of wear or anything else. Works just like the original. No need to pay 100 bucks extra for something like this imho :)

And i agree it's silly that people tells themself (without having the guts to admit why) that it's better because they paid more for it.

My "cheap" pro-setup;
Canon EOS 450D | Canon 50mm f1.8 II | Canon EF 70-200L f2.8 IS USM | YN-468 v2
8GB SDHC Class10 | BG-E5 + 4xLP-E5 | RC-4 | Canon E1 | Lowepro Exchange Messenger bag

In the case of a BG-E7, the Canon grip costs more than a 3rd party grip because it has a magnesium chassis.

Aslong as the body is magnesium, the grip may be of whatever material as long as it seals to the battery compartment.

And even the non weatherproof and plastic DSLR's like the rebels can take ALOT of beating according to digitalrev who nailed some nails into a bord with the 400D and a noink d60 IIRC. and they still fired the shutter. Even after he had hot tea over both and walked with them as shoes. Which is enough beating to prove a point that even cheap plastic can hold up. :)

Just saying!

To the point is, i understand what you're saying and why the price is higher for the 7D when it's OEM as i believe the BG-E7 is of magnesium too just like the camera? Though battery grip for the rebels for example are plastic and they cost way more than the 3rd party ones which are made of the same kind of material.

Thanks everyone for your answers. The conversation seems to have been centred around the grip, but is there any reason, as far as you know, that (if I don't use the grip) I shouldn't use the cheaper batteries instead of the expensive Canon one?

The batteries are most probably counterfeit, as you can gauge from the reply to the question on the ebay ad.

There is no real way of guaranteeing the quality of the cells used. Some have had good performance from the clone batteries while others haven't. I guess that is what you pay for when you buy genuine canon batteries, the guarantee that they will perform.

If the clone LP-E6 batteries are chipped they can be registered by the camera and the battery gauge will work, un-chipped batteries will still work but there is no battery gauge.

I'd be more concerned about the batteries - Do the genuine 7D ones have the 'chipped' batteries that give you a better estimate of life left in them?

In view of some of the comments here, I should make it clear that I'm fully aware that these items are probably counterfeit or 'compatible'. What I'm asking is if anyone has had any experience of items like this - in particular, the batteries.

I wouldn't waste your money on a no namer. Here is a Zeikos from a reputable store.
