I've been trying to get Elements 8 to recognise the raw files from my 1D4 with no success so far

I have updated the software but still no luck

Any ideas? I am sure it is probably something easy but I have no idea

Thanks in advance

Very lucky to have a lot of nice toys :)

Did you also update your version of the Adobe Camera RAW plug-in? I believe that all versions of Elements prior to version 9 require this to be done manually. (Version 9 finally includes ACR with the program auto-updates.)

Here is the definitive Adobe web page on the subject, including a link to their database telling you which version of ACR is required for your camera (5.6 in your case) and how to tell which version you presently have:

By the way, Elements 8 supports all versions of ACR up to and including the latest, which is 6.3.

As Rimmer says, the 1D MkIV was suported from version 5.6 on so you need to update the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plugin to the latest version for Elements 8.

HERE (external link) is the link for the Windows version of 5.6 but you may be able to use a newer version? not sure if you are Win or MC though.

If, as Rimmer says, PSE8 will support ACR 6.3 you should definitely update to 6 because it has big improvements over ACR 5
