Her name is said "Allie," but spelt like the beer. I picked up the Zack Arias One Light DVD during the Black Friday special and have watching it and doing my homework. This was my first legit strobist shoot and I am pleased with the results.

All of these shots are with my 16-35 as I was having ST-e2 triggering issues while shooting with the 70-200 at greater distances. I need some radio triggers! :D

I used a 430EX II in manual mode, shot through a Westcott 43" at about 45ยบ camera left.

Beautiful job...I'm practicing my strobist skills these days, too. That low sun can be real tough but, so gorgeous when you can reign her in! :) And you seem to have handled that task very nicely!

Exif isn't showing, so I'm not sure what your settings were. But I think you could increase the power of the 430 and adjust your shutter speed to bring back the sky.

I really like the third shot. The building on the left really helps the composition.

Thank you. Now if I can get my strobe to trigger at a distance in the direct sun

Thanks Derrick. The sun was sitting just right to use as the back/rim light.

Thats interesting because the EXIF is intact and its also is on the [clickable] flickr images. These were around f/4, 1/250 sec, ISO 100. I think the 430 was set to 1/4 power.
